PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Lead safety, service, productivity, and financial performance across CPKC’s crossing and right-of-way‑ operations. In this role, you will represent the company with government and regulatory partners to advance meaningful safety improvements at public and private crossings. You will also address inquiries from municipalities, agencies, and citizens with expertise while collaborating across Operations and Engineering teams to resolve issues quickly and effectively. This position can be headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri or St. Paul Minneapolis.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coordinate with government agencies, regulators, utilities, outside parties, and internal departments on construction, crossing, and signal projects
  • Oversee all flagging coordination for third-party projects
  • Lead negotiations for at grade crossing closures and cost apportionment on joint projects
  • Prepare and process Crossing and Signal Agreements for public and private projects
  • Identify and leverage outside funding sources for construction and upgrade initiatives
  • Ensure outside parties comply with CPKC, AREMA, and regulatory safety standards when working on railway property
  • Serve as the primary contact for public agencies and stakeholders on crossing safety, right-of-way matters, and public project coordination
  • Participate in on site visits with internal and external stakeholders

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or equivalent experience    
  • Minimum 5+ or more years of railroad experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Must be highly motivated individual who is comfortable working independently in an unstructured, multi-disciplinary team atmosphere
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) with the ability to effectively utilize these tools to support daily business operations

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
