Job Title: Mechanical Teams Co-Ordinator 

Salary: £30,206 - £37,000 per annum depending upon experience 

Location: Peterborough, UK

About IPSD

What is Test Facilities & Engineering (TF&E) 

The TF&E mechanical maintenance team provides expert technical support to the state of the art engine test facility, ensuring quality data output. They are responsible for manufacturing, implementing, and upgrading test facility support systems and rigs to assist in engine development and verification. The team also commissions the multi million pound engine test facility, which boasts world class performance, emissions, and mechanical validation capabilities. Team members interact with the wider facilities team and other departments within GED and the Industrial Power Systems Development Engineers. 

The successful candidate will support the mechanical technician team in delivering efficient, high quality work in their day to day operations. They will assist with maintenance scheduling, support installations and commissioning activities and help ensure smooth daily operations. The role requires excellent organisational skills, communication, decision making and a proactive approach to team coordination and problem solving. 

In daily operations, the coordinator will demonstrate leadership under pressure, communicate effectively, manage priorities and contribute to achieving facility targets. 

 

What You Will Do 

  • Govern and delegate and drive velocity in day-to-day team activities, including task assignment, breakdown support, project work, and quality management, using work order management systems aligned with business priorities. 

  • Coordinate technician responses to facility breakdowns, ensuring timely and effective resolution. 

  • Collaborate daily with operational management to designate workload and team priorities. 

  • Conduct lean improvement activities focused on team velocity, and report on daily KPIs. 

  • Perform duties such as maintaining team records, supporting the team in procuring parts, spares and equipment and managing area and assets. 

  • Manage team contractor support, including database and accountability for work carried out, ensuring all surveys and inspections are completed to high standards. 

  • Organising routine servicing and inspections of maintenance equipment and assets, keeping the management systems up to date. 

  • Identify team training needs and implement appropriate actions to ensure the team meets business requirements. 

  • Promote and sustain a safe working environment by eliminating unsafe processes and behaviours and actively contributing to a positive safety culture. 

 

What You Will Have 

  • Degree educated or an NVQ level 3 or equivalent mechanical discipline and/or relevant work experience. 

  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office products & general PC applications. 

  • Good understanding of maintenance processes, tools, equipment, and familiarity with operational and quality objectives. 

  • Strong leadership attributes, including excellent organisation, communication, problem solving, coordination and prioritising skills. 

 

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles: 

  • Experience in maintenance planning and supervisory experience is desirable 

  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. 

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. 

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. 

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.
