The role is responsible for the supervision of laboratory operations on a daily basis of assignment area or service
 


Managerial   Assisting in the development of a strategic vision for the section and produce a report for the facility on the service developments and future plans

Monitoring own service areas’ performance as well as staff performance

Practicing accountability and follow up with fellow workers

Working with and lead assigned team/service to provide an efficient and effective service and to be involved in the proposal/development and implementation of department policies and the annual business plan

Overseeing the daily activities associated with all services offered by the section and preparation or other key job responsibilities.

Providing support and assistance to all section/service staff. Provide coaching whenever needed

Participating in the initiation and implementation of section wide projects

Recommend service expansion or enhancement in line with the overall vision of the department/facility

Conducting regular service area meetings

Assisting supervisors in setting up and managing a delegated budget, and being involved in the development and implementation of cost improvement schemes through service redesign, cash allocation and income generation schemes and ensure that service delivery is managed within financial and budgetary constraints

Supervising the wastage of materials by appropriate stock rotation, just in time ordering and by ensuring good laboratory technique by staff in the laboratories. Approves inventory of material supplies and equipment and submits orders following discussion with senior staff

Assisting in managing department employees including objective setting, annual leave, supervision and reflective practice

Assisting in  recruiting, inducting, training and appraising staff in accordance with SEHA and facility policies and procedures

Directing the  daily management of workload allocation within the service area, taking into account the changing/competing demands and making decisions about prioritization of procedures

Representing the service and/or individual patients at a multi-disciplinary level to ensure delivery of coordinated multi-disciplinary service

Receiving delegation of tasks and responsibilities whenever necessary, taking responsibility for operational management of the department in manager’s absence, allocating and organizing the work of  professional and assistant staff to meet service priorities on a daily basis

Ensuring close collaboration while working with other senior staff as appropriate

Being able to balance team, patient related and professional activities in accordance with departmental requirements

Technical   Oversees the monitoring and  approval of laboratory findings to ensure accuracy of the results

Reviews data from analysis of lab tests and results into laboratory information systems for storage0

Provides technical information about test results to requesting physicians as requested

Contributes to the development and adoption of local evidence based policies on matters relating to diagnosis and treatment, in response to local and national guidance

Evaluates laboratory data and prepare reports as per requirements

Performs on-call and shift duties as assigned, including weekends and public holidays

Quality & Safety   Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensures continuous quality improvement measures are in place. Conduct method evaluation/development as per standard policies and procedures

Supervising compliance with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable

Supervising compliance with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection

Maintaining and assisting in enforcing the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded

Complying and ensuring that those directly supervised comply with occupational health and safety at work policies and procedures

Assisting in the planning and developing policies that guide the service implementation process

Practicing within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures

Ensuring that SOP (standard operation procedures) and Quality Assurance tests are maintained within all sections

Being responsible for documenting all intervention in appropriate format

Assisting in the development of clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed. Supporting the promotion of audit and research programs on service implementation, in line with national policy, statutory requirements and service requirements within the facility

Communicating in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status

Education   Delivering training and education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses in the safe and secure handling of drugs and equipment, prescribing (whenever applicable), administration and treatment and management i.e. teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, and clinical presentations

Participating in department programs/committees, various hospital committees, and staff meetings

Participating in the orientation and training of new employees

Ensuring appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures

Maintaining professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education units

Completing and maintaining all regulatory requirements including: licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames

Ensuring all members of the department receive adequate clinical supervision as required for their professional and technical development
 

Qualification :- 

 Special Certificate:- 

   Required: 
a. NLT 6 years clinical experience in a accredited clinical laboratory environment by CAP or JCIA or Canadian Hospital accreditation or CPAC Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) or local experience in any accredited HAAD hospitals, since first registration as a qualified
laboratory science professional with NLT 2 years in a position as a laboratory supervisor
b. NLT 8 years clinical experience in clinical laboratoryenvironment since first registration as a qualified laboratory science professional and NLT 5 years since gaining a higher qualification.
* UAE National: NLT 3 years relevant experience in an acute care
hospital and NLT 1 years manager or supervisory or equivalent
experience.
* Evidence of progressive leadership and management experience
in a clinical position.N.A.
