We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic Kaea Mātauranga | Museum Education Coordinator to join the Rotorua Museum Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa team. Reporting to the Education Lead, this role plays a key part in planning, promoting, delivering and evaluating engaging educational experiences that connect learners with Rotorua’s rich history, culture and heritage.

Based across Te Aka Mauri – Rotorua Library and Rotorua Museum, you will be responsible for delivering curriculum-based learning programmes for schools and education groups, including Ministry of Education Enhancing Local Curriculum (ELC) programmes. You will work closely with teachers and learning organisations to create memorable and meaningful educational experiences, while supporting the development of resources and programmes that bring museum collections and local stories to life.

The ideal candidate will hold a formal teaching qualification and have experience delivering engaging educational programmes for children and young people. You will have a sound understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga Aotearoa, along with excellent communication and presentation skills. A strong appreciation of Mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori is essential, and experience teaching in te reo Māori is highly desirable. Fluency in te reo Māori and the ability to develop and deliver programmes in both te reo Māori and English would be a significant advantage.

With a customer-focused mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving, you will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment and committed to delivering exceptional educational outcomes.
