The Davey Tree Expert Company is looking for an On Call Snow Plow Operator to serve customers in South St. Paul, Minnesota. This is an onsite, seasonal position that runs from November 15 through April 15, with the expectation that you’ll be available to respond 24/7 during snow and ice events. It’s a fit for someone who likes outdoor winter work, takes pride in timely response, and wants to contribute to a team that prioritizes safety and client service.

Davey is one of the country’s largest employee‑owned firms, known for safety, collaboration and delivering top‑notch client service. The company backs its people with training and opportunities for advancement, and there’s a potential path to continue with the Landscape team in the spring for the right candidate.

Snow season rhythm on site

When a storm hits, you’ll jump into action, responding quickly to calls and keeping the lines open with your crew before, during and after shifts. Each shift starts with a quick check of your vehicles and equipment, ensuring everything is ready for operation, followed by clearing snow from designated areas and piling snow only where approved. You’ll drive and operate the equipment safely and efficiently, and you’ll apply de‑icing agents to control ice buildup as directed, using products such as salt, treated salt, liquids or other approved chemicals. Where needed, you’ll supplement machine work with manual clearing like hand‑shoveling or using a snow blower to keep walkways, doorways and fire equipment clear. You’ll follow Davey safety policies and document site service records for every visit, turning in paperwork promptly and flagging any obstacles you encounter on site.

Your winter toolkit

Here are the essential requirements and the desirable extras that help you succeed in this role.

  • Be available around the clock during snow or ice events
  • Bring proven experience operating a snowplow or skidsteer
  • Have reliable transportation to get to sites on short notice
  • Be able to work outdoors in extreme cold, snow and ice on a regular basis
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Familiarity with de‑icing agents such as salt, treated salt, liquids or other chemicals
  • Willingness to hand‑clear or hand‑treat site areas with shovels or a snow blower when required
  • Interest in ongoing training and opportunities for career advancement with Davey
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for assignments
  • Potential to continue working with the Landscape team in the spring

Compensation and practical details

Pay is set by experience, in the range of $20-$25 per hour, with the possibility of additional snow pay for larger events, to be discussed at the interview. The role is on a seasonal, temporary basis from November 15 to April 15 and requires availability 24/7 during snow events. It’s an onsite, part‑time position with travel expected to be up to 25%. This role sits in South St. Paul, MN 55075, and there is a path to continued work with Davey’s Landscape team in the spring if there’s a fit. Davey emphasizes safety and offers ongoing training and career advancement opportunities, plus accommodations if needed to perform essential duties. The company is an equal opportunity employer and, if you need help, you can reach out at 1-877-411-7601 or [email protected].

Tips for standing out in this snow plow role

Highlight in your resume that you’re available 24/7 during snow events and can cover the November 15–April 15 window, since that’s built into the role’s schedule.

Show off your must‑have skills by detailing specific experience with a snowplow or skidsteer, including the kinds of equipment you’ve used and how you’ve performed pre‑shift inspections and maintenance in prior roles.

Be ready to discuss safety policies and your experience working outdoors in extreme cold and winter conditions. If you’ve used de‑icing products, share which ones you’re familiar with and how you apply them responsibly.

Ask about the potential for spring work with the Landscape team and about training opportunities and career advancement within Davey, as those opportunities can shape what comes next in your winter role.
