WM New Zealand is hiring for a full-time Operator Transfer Station in Wanaka. You’ll safely run the transfer station and recycling area, help the public, and deliver strong customer service. Key duties include controlling waste and recyclables deposition, operating onsite plant and heavy equipment, directing traffic, keeping buildings and grounds tidy, performing general labour, and helping meet recycling and diversion targets. Desired: prior operator experience, forklift licence, site machinery endorsements (minimum W), though training will be provided. You’ll need autonomy plus teamwork, good fitness, and basic computer skills. In return, a competitive hourly rate, training, fixed Wed-Sun roster, and a small positive team; ensure you’re eligible to work in NZ and ready for 40–45 hours per week.

Job Description

In this role, you will have the responsibility for the safe and tidy operation of the transfer station and recycling area and assisting the public with general enquiries, while maintaining a professional image of the company and delivering high-quality customer service.

Key responsibilities of the position will include: 

  • Control the placement of waste and recyclables being deposited by customers
  • Operate onsite plant and equipment, such as loaders and similar heavy equipment
  • Direct traffic and provide general information to customers 
  • Maintain all buildings, grounds, roadways, and landscaping in a clean and tidy condition
  • Undertake general labouring duties as required
  • Assist with general administration, completing all records and paperwork as directed
  • Meet targets for recycling and diversion of waste from landfill

Qualifications

To be successful in this role: 

  • Previous operator experience would be an advantage 
  • A Forklift (OSH) licence is desirable
  • Appropriate endorsements for operating on site machinery are preferred (minimum W endorsement), however training and support will be provided to obtain the required licences for the right candidate.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • A good level of fitness is required to carry out the duties of the role 
  • Some experience with computers and systems would be advantageous
