Summary 

Industrial Painter I prepares paper machine roll parts for paint, operates a spray painter or other equipment to apply industrial paint finishes on metals or products. Mixes paints and other solutions and monitors drying to ensure desired results. Completes finishing with baking, polishing or other materials. Follows all required safety procedures. May paint items by hand as needed.

Responsibilities

• Follow specific instructions for prep and paint of paper machine rolls.
• Prepare paper machine roll parts safely by needle scaling, wire brushing, cleaning, and performing other surface preparation activities as needed.
• Paint surfaces of metal parts using spray painting equipment and work aids utilizing specific surface preparation and painting techniques.
• Apply a variety of coatings including enamels, epoxies, urethanes and military coatings from various paint manufactures.
• Maintain consistent paint thickness in accordance with quality and specification requirements.
• Clean and prepare part surfaces prior to painting to ensure they are free of contamination and meet specification requirements.
• Inspect parts prior to paint for needed repair, prepping and cleaning.
• Mask parts to print notes stating tight tolerances for overspray prevention.
• Hang or set-up parts prior to painting.
• Inspect parts after painting for needed repairs, proper thickness and general appearance.
• Sand, mask, blend and finish to match part’s surrounding areas when completing paint repairs.
• Maintain paint equipment, including spray guns, booths, filters, and related components, to ensure proper operation and performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

• Safety awareness in an industrial shop environment.
• Demonstrate proper PPE use and promote safe work practices among team members.
• Overhead crane/forklift certification a plus.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail to ensure the cosmetic appearance and quality of painted paper machine rolls.
• Possess good mechanical aptitude.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
