Warmline is a peer-led, non-clinical suicide prevention phone service for those who have attempted suicide, are struggling with suicidal thoughts, or are at risk. Guided by your personal lived experience, our peer workers offer understanding, compassion, and support in a shared space of trust and respect.

About the opportunity

Warmline Suicide Prevention Peer Workers provide a safe space where callers feel heard, validated, and supported. They assist with coping strategies, safety planning, and navigating local or online resources.

Callers can request a callback from a peer worker for support with their distress, concerns, or worries. The Suicide Prevention Team Leader will match them with a suitable peer worker, who will reach out within 48 business hours to arrange a time for a conversation. Callers can choose a one-time call or up to eight weekly scheduled calls for ongoing support.

The shift times for this role will be Monday - Wednesday 1:30pm - 7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am - 3:30pm (penalty rates apply). This is an office based role to be located in Rockhampton.

About you

In this role, you'll provide compassionate support to participants during both initial and scheduled outreach calls. You'll offer helpful information, referrals, and ongoing guidance, while building strong, trusting relationships that help participants find hope, develop a positive identity, and build a meaningful life.

You'll engage with callers to discuss their distress or suicidality and work together on safety planning. Your Team Leader will be there to support you the whole way!

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Lived experience of suicidality or suicide bereavement
  • Non-judgmental, supportive attitude and ability to empathise
  • Right to work within Australia
  • Current valid Driver’s Licence and the ability to undertake some travel
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (Quality, Safety and You) – free online course
  • National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children's Check
  • Desirable: Relevant qualifications or commensurate experience in working in the mental health or community services sector, generally Certificate IV qualification (Health/Mental Health, &/OR Diploma/Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work)
