Description

 

The Pharmacy Technician  will assist Pharmacists with technical and supportive functions. Will train and provide orientation and guidance to Pharmacy Technicians. Will assist to plan and assign the Technician's work schedule.

 

Qualifications

 Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required) Or
Associate's Degree science related field and 1 year of hospital experience as a hospital Pharmacy technician (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
2 years Experience in a hospital (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Accurate data entry skills
Able to read write and speak English fluently
Strong time management and organizational skills
Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Registered Pharmacy technician in the District of Columbia (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
Maintain
  • Maintain Pyxis® drawer configuration and contents; print standard and special request reports.

  • Maintain records of controlled substance orders, receipt, and disposition.

  • Maintain kit system for Operating Room and other areas as needed.

Purchasing and Invoicing
 

  • Coordinate purchasing of drugs and related items, note receipt of product, processes invoices, and assures payment through system.

Customer Service
 

  • Interact with vendors and other departments.

  • Obtain usage information or provide analyses of drug usage as requested.

  • Train and orient Pharmacy Technicians.

Cost Reduction
 

  • Identify areas for cost reduction through reducing acquisition cost or improved inventory control.

Contract Pricing
 

  • Assure that items purchased by CNMC are on contract and when possible, are at the lowest possible price and are of high quality.

Inventory Control
 

  • Responsible for inventory control, note low stock items in the “Want Book” and prepack bulk medication as needed.

Cart Filling
 

  • Fill, exchange, and credit medication carts upon authorization of the Pharmacist; return usable stock to inventory upon crediting.

IV Preparation
 

  • Mix intravenous preparation with additives (including total parenteral nutrition solutions).

  • Reconstitute and prepare injections (including antineoplastic medication).

New Order Processing
 

  • Receive and sort medication orders.

  • Select and prepare appropriate medication for new medication orders, unit dose carts and outpatient prescriptions.
