Portfolio Associate
Octopus EnergyOctopus Energy is expanding its OEGEN arm and is looking for a Portfolio Associate to join the London-based Funds team. OEGEN focuses on sourcing, investing in and managing a broad mix of utility-scale renewable energy assets, supported by a global portfolio valued at over £8 billion. The team is building a diverse, hands-on group that spans listed funds, semi-liquid strategies and private funds, all aimed at delivering responsible investment outcomes. This role is a solid fit for someone with a finance, accounting or investment background who wants to deepen experience across different fund structures and reporting cycles.
The Portfolio Associate will report to the Senior Portfolio Manager and work across OEGEN’s listed funds, semi-liquid strategies and private funds, helping with the full fund-management cycle. That includes portfolio analysis, valuations, cash-flow forecasting, debt and hedging, governance and investor reporting. A particular emphasis will be analysing allocations and underlying fund information across semi-liquid and liquid strategies, reviewing valuations and asset performance in private market investments, and supporting the Finance team with monthly NAV processes.
Analytical and well-organised candidates who enjoy both recurring processes and judgement-led portfolio analysis will likely thrive here. The role provides broad exposure to a varied OEGEN portfolio and a chance to develop broad fund-management experience within the team.
A day in the life with the OEGEN funds team
You’ll support the Senior Portfolio Manager across the full fund-management cycle, coordinating with Asset Management, Investment and Finance to monitor investments, track fund KPIs, manage distributions and liquidity, and ensure investor returns are delivered on time. You’ll help turn portfolio data into clear reporting and participate in governance activities across the different fund types.
Beyond the day-to-day monitoring, you’ll contribute to valuations and financial modelling, review assumptions, prepare valuation bridges and sensitivities, and challenge outputs from internal teams, external valuers and underlying managers. You’ll also assist with cash-flow forecasting, debt monitoring and hedging activities, working with colleagues across Finance and Investment to keep debt covenants and structures aligned with the funds’ needs.
Another focus is analysing allocations and information from underlying funds, turning it into fund-level insights and investor reporting. You’ll help assemble materials for investor reports, board materials and due diligence responses, and support monthly NAV processes for private funds in collaboration with the Finance team.
Ensuring governance is robust and the information provided to Boards, customer boards, auditors and other governance forums is accurate is part of the role. You’ll monitor risks such as underperformance, valuation movements and liquidity gaps, escalating issues where needed. There’s also room to streamline processes and improve data handling to keep reporting consistent and auditable.
There’s scope to contribute to process improvement by keeping fund-level data up to date for NAV, AUM, returns, distributions and commitments, and by spotting practical ways to improve reporting, controls, data collection and automation.

Guidance to strengthen your application
Lead with your most relevant fund-management and analytical experience on your CV, placing emphasis on NAVs, valuations and investor reporting so the hiring team can see you’re a fit for the role.
Back up the must-have skills with concrete examples from your work, such as how you handled cash-flow forecasting, debt management and governance, and any valuation modelling or scenario analyses you’ve run.
In interviews, be ready to describe a valuation process you’ve led or contributed to, how you coordinated with Finance and Investment teams, and how you communicated NAV movements or liquidity concerns to stakeholders.
Ask a targeted question about governance and reporting across different fund types, for instance how the team balances accuracy with timely investor communications and how they coordinate with the Finance team on monthly NAVs.
