UGL Utilities team designs, constructs and maintains critical infrastructure across the power, water and renewable sectors. Ranging from HV Substations and Transmission Lines up to 500kV to power stations and wastewater treatment plants. We design and construct the following assets; substations, transmission lines, power generation, electrical distribution networks, water and waste water treatment plants and water pipelines.

About the role
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer, Primary Systems to join UGL’s Utilities engineering team in Perth on a permanent full-time basis. This role is responsible for producing design deliverables under the direction of senior engineering staff, while coordinating design effort with other engineering disciplines and managing required outputs in line with project requirements.
 
You will support detailed design, checking, technical coordination and the development of engineering documentation across high voltage power systems and substation primary systems. The role offers exposure to a wide range of design areas, including substation configuration, plant layouts, busbars and connections, clearances, underground services, earthing, HV equipment, BESS, solar and wind farm requirements, HV cable design and lightning protection. 
 
 
Key responsibilities
  • Produce detailed electrical design deliverables for primary systems, with support and guidance from senior engineering staff. 
  • Support design checking activities and ensure technical accuracy, adequacy and compliance with project requirements. 
  • Coordinate design interfaces with drafting personnel and other engineering disciplines to support timely drawing and document delivery. 
  • Monitor progress against design schedules, budgets and project delivery requirements for allocated areas of work. 
  • Provide engineering advice and technical support to construction, installation, tendering and operations teams where required. 
  • Assist with inspection and test documentation, operating and maintenance manuals, reports, registers and project-specific procedures. 
  • Maintain safe working practices and comply with UGL’s HSSE, quality, regulatory and project procedures.

About you
  • Bachelor degree qualification in electrical engineering, with qualifications acceptable for member grade of Engineers Australia. 
  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience, including experience designing or maintaining high voltage power systems for large industrial plants. 
  • Understanding of primary systems design from concept development through to detailed design. 
  • Ability to effectively interface with primary substation equipment design and communicate with CAD draughtspersons to optimise drawing outputs. 
  • Strong attention to detail, practical hands-on aptitude and sound verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while also operating independently when required. 
  • Desirable experience may include design-for-construction environments, HV transmission substations, site or commissioning exposure, protection systems, automation, communications or LV motor control design.
