As our Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide expert engineering assessment and advice on planning, implementing and operating Council’s electrical and intelligent transport network to ensure it is well planned and operates safely both now and into the future to meet the needs of the community.

  • Provide expert technical advice as it relates to Electrical (street lighting) and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) based on contemporary best practice transport design principles, relevant standards, guidelines and Council policies that is context sensitive and consistent. 
  • Prepare and review detailed design briefs for both internal and external design services and ensure that design projects are delivered on time, within budget and are aligned to strategy
  • Review and provide feedback on electrical engineering design plans to ensure compliance with relevant standards and guidelines, whilst being context sensitive and fit for purpose, and providing value for money for the community.

  • Shape Australia’s newest City Council’s Street Lighting Policy and future Intelligent Transport System’s needs.
  • Be a part of Council’s nation leading Next generation Traffic Signals Controller project – With significant growth in the region and increasing costs of construction to meet the required transport demands Council is embarking on a nation leading trial of new traffic signal controller technology and systems to improve the transport network.
  • Develop innovative lighting solutions for Active Transport users and wildlife sensitive areas.
  • Be a part of the of Council’s big budget major Road project teams such as Buchanan Road Upgrade, Old Gympie Road Corridor upgrade and Caboolture River Road upgrade.

About you

We’re seeking an engineering professional with comprehensive experience in electrical street lighting and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) engineering design, development, and review. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in quality management, value engineering, and hold RPEQ approval, ensuring excellence across all phases of project delivery.

You will be skilled in the preparation and presentation technical reports and proposals, building strong relationships across stakeholder groups both internal and external and prioritising workload across - tasks, meetings and conflicting timeframes. 

You will have degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia. You will have Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or ability to obtain within first 12 months of employment. You will hold a Current “C” Class Driver’s licence.
