We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Product Designer – Electrical. This position reports to Electrical Design Manager and will work in Vancouver, BC.

Vancouver:

Dometic Marine’s headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.

As Product Designer – Electrical of the Vancouver team, you will be responsible for new product development as well as maintenance and continuous improvement of existing products within the Design Engineering team. In conjunction with new product development, a Product Designer - Electrical is expected to conduct validation and qualification testing to ensure products meet the rigorous functional and safety standards associated with Dometic Marine products. Team members will be working alongside electronic, embedded firmware, and mechanical product designers to solve a variety of technical challenges to develop novel technologies that pave roads towards successful product launches.

General Responsibilities

  • Circuit design including schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout, and routing using Altium Designer (or an equivalent electronic CAD program)
  • Prepare design documentation for new products and components such as PCBA engineering specification, drawings, and test reports
  • Support new product launches by working with cross-functional product development teams including Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Automation Engineering
  • Hold design reviews and conduct validation tests (EMC, EFT, and other automotive qualification testing)
  • Work alongside embedded firmware development team to select microcontrollers and implement electronic designs
  • Provide cost and schedule estimates for new projects. Support research and development project activities.
  • Maintain bill of materials and designs of existing products to ensure product continuity across an ever-changing supply chain
  • Conduct isolated testing of existing products in search of continuous improvements, reduction of field failures, or cost reduction

Skills & Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will bring demonstrated success in engineering environment. Additionally, they will have acquired the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronic, or related engineering discipline is required
  • Minimum 1 years of industry or relevant electronic design experience.
  • Consumer electronic product design experience and new product development experience, ideally related to automotive and/or safety critical systems
  • Strong proficiency in Altium Designer, or equivalent electronic CAD program
  • Knowledge of motor drive technologies and topologies including: pre-driver theory, MOSFET technologies, motor drive strategies, and motor technologies
  • Knowledge of sensor technologies related to position, acceleration, temperature, GPS, IMU, and relevant parameters associated with selection of appropriate sensors
  • Knowledge of microcontroller parameters related to selecting components based on specifications and applications
  • Familiar with PCB manufacturing processes and fabrication capabilities, specifically as it relates to interfacing with external fabrication houses
  • Working knowledge of communication interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, RS232
  • Experience with troubleshooting EMC related issues during the certification testing of a product
  • Familiar with lithium batteries, battery chargers, battery management
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as SAE, ASTM, ISO, and familiarity with ISO9001
  • Familiar with ERP systems to control engineering Bills of Materials
  • Experience with simulation and scripting languages (Python) to accelerate electronic design and analysis
