Job Summary

 

National Pipe & Plastics, one of the largest PVC pipe producers in North America, is currently seeking a Production Lead. The production lead will lead a team completing plastic extrusion production of raw materials into finished goods. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the equipment, maintaining product quality, and leading a team of operators and technicians. Your primary goal will be to ensure the shift meets production targets while adhering to safety, quality, and efficiency standards.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of the Bay to ensure smooth and efficient operation
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance as needed
  • Ensure that equipment is properly set up, maintained, and operated according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or maintenance with the maintenance team
  • Assist supervisor with the production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries
  • Assist supervisor with staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action
  • Provide and facilitate effective communication and information flow with other departments
  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures
  • Regular engagement with Quality Control in the implementation and enforcement of quality control procedures to ensure that fittings meet the required specifications and standards
  • Conduct regular inspections and tests to verify product quality and address any non-conformities
  • Maintain housekeeping according to 5S standards
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, provide training on safe work practices, and address any safety concerns promptly
  • Provide training and guidance to staff, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively, identify training needs and organize relevant training programs
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, equipment maintenance, and quality control results
  • Generate reports on production metrics, efficiency, and quality performance
  • Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, evaluate new technologies, and optimize material utilization
  • Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments

 

Job Requirements

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical or vocational training in manufacturing, mechanical or related field is preferred
  • Proven experience in manufacturing or a similar role within the plastics industry
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control standards in the manufacturing industry
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient computer skills for data entry, documentation, and reporting
  • Forklift certification a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. regularly
