He Ara Takatū | Tertiary Foundation Certificate is New Zealand's largest foundation programme for domestic students. It provides an alternative entry to university for those who require further preparation for the degree and/or subjects they aspire to study, with a particular focus on on literacy and numeracy. TFC particularly focuses on providing access to Māori, Pasifika, students from low-socio economic backgrounds, students with disabilities, and students from refugee backgrounds.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity

The He Ara Takatū – Tertiary Foundation Certificate (TFC) team is seeking two Professional Teaching Fellows in Humanities to support students preparing for tertiary study and to deliver teaching that makes a meaningful impact.

The roles are being recruited in response to growing student enrolments and increasing demand for Tertiary Foundation Certificate (TFC) English courses, with teaching at both our City and Te Tai Tonga (Manukau) campuses. One position is permanent and one is a three-year fixed term role.

As a Professional Teaching Fellow in TFC English, you’ll be at the heart of:

• Teaching foundation-level English tailored to the diverse learning needs of TFC students and preparing them for undergraduate study in the humanities and across the University
• Coordinating and teaching TFC English courses across in-person, asynchronous and blended delivery modes
• Providing high-quality, research-informed learning and assessment, alongside pastoral support that is essential to enabling student success
• Supporting students one-on-one, helping them build confidence and capability as they prepare for tertiary study
• Contributing to course and curriculum development as TFC English continues to grow and expand across campuses and delivery modes
• Contributing to a strong and collegial team culture across TFC, Humanities and English

The workload allocation for these positions is 80% teaching and 20% service.

There are two positions available:

• One full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position
• One full-time (40 hours per week), three-year fixed-term position

Remuneration depends on experience and achievements, and will be aligned with our Academic Standards policy. It will be in the range of $105,791-$116,929.

Qualifications

He kōrero mōu | About you

The ideal candidate will hold a Masters or PhD in English or a related discipline and have experience teaching English in a high-school, college or university setting. We particularly value experience teaching in foundation-level or related programmes. 

You will be confident coordinating courses and using a learning management system such as Canvas and enjoy working with learners at varying levels and from diverse backgrounds. You will communicate clearly, collaborate effectively and bring a positive, student-centred approach to your teaching. You are also keen to innovate, adapt and contribute to research-informed teaching and the continued development of TFC English.
