Optotune invites a motivated intern for a six month on-site R&D internship in Zurich to join the technology development team with a focus on material questions, including software design to study materials, running experiments, analyzing data, collaborating on product design, and potentially developing small hardware components. Optotune is a strongly growing and internationally active optics company based in Dietikon, Switzerland. We develop, manufacture and market the latest generation of adaptive optical elements for industrial- and consumer markets.
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join our research and development team working on technology development. The content of this internship will be the development of new products with a focus on material questions. The R&D intern will work under the guidance of senior engineers to assist with ongoing research, development, and testing of new products. This is a full-time internship position for a duration of a minimum 6 months, starting as soon as available.
Tasks
- Assistance in the development of new products with a focus on material questions
- Design of the software required to understand the materials aspects
- Conduction of test runs and analysis of experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and tools
- Collaboration with team members on the design of the products
- Participation in team meetings and contribution to team discussions and problem-solving
- Maintenance of accurate and organized records of experimental data and results
- Development of small hardware components (electronics, firmware) is possible
Requirements
- Finished or currently enrolled in an MSc degree in material science, physics, mechanical, electrical, or optical engineering or a related field
- Experience in an optical, chemical, or similar laboratory
- Understanding basic optics and physics principles
- Some experience in programming and data analysis
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience in electronics is a plus
