As the regional lead, you’ll steer a team of Engineer Surveyors and drive the commercial performance of SGS’s Regulatory division in the area. You’ll balance delivering excellent service with a strong focus on safety, quality and accountability, while cultivating productive partnerships with customers and stakeholders. Your day-to-day will blend people leadership, operational oversight and financial stewardship in a fast-moving regulated environment, all aimed at growing the business and sustaining high standards.

SGS operates in more than 115 countries with over 100,000 employees, and this role sits at the heart of that global network. The company description notes its mission to help customers improve quality, safety and productivity through independent services. The successful candidate will enjoy contributing to a well-respected, long-standing organisation and collaborating with other leadership to drive continuous improvement and business success.

Guiding the Upper North Island regulatory leadership

In this position you’ll oversee the performance and delivery across the Upper North Island, ensuring regulatory, accreditation, quality and safety requirements are met. You’ll lead recruitment, coaching and development for a skilled team of Engineer Surveyors, while shaping regional plans that align with the broader SGS strategy. The role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with customers and stakeholders, coordinating resources for service delivery and optimising utilisation to support sustainable growth.

What you’ll need to lead the region

Must-have capabilities include a track record in the engineering, inspection, regulatory, compliance or industrial services space, plus proven experience guiding technical or operational teams. You should demonstrate solid commercial and financial management skills, including responsibility for revenue, margins and forecasting. Knowledge of industrial plant, pressure equipment, maintenance or asset integrity environments is essential, as is a good grasp of statutory, regulatory and safety requirements. You’ll hold tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Science or Business, and you’ll need to have a current unrestricted New Zealand Driver Licence. Strong communication, relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills are also important.

Nice-to-have extras that could help

CBIP qualifications or direct exposure to the inspection industry would count in your favour, though they’re not mandatory. Any additional experience with regulatory frameworks or accreditation processes relevant to the region could also help you hit the ground running.

What SGS offers in return

The role comes with a competitive salary package plus a company vehicle. You’ll have the chance to shape the future growth of SGS Regulatory across the Upper North Island and develop your career within a global organisation. The company emphasises a supportive and experienced leadership team and offers flexible location options across Auckland, Tauranga or Rotorua.

Advice for applicants

When you tailor your resume, lead with evidence of your leadership of technical or operational teams and the regional scope you’ve managed, along with any P&L outcomes you’ve delivered. Show how you’ve driven safety, quality and customer service improvements in a regulated or industrial setting, and be ready to point to concrete examples that demonstrate your impact. Have ready a story about how you’ve built and maintained long-term relationships with customers and regulators, including the outcomes you achieved. Consider drafting a 12-month plan for growing SGS Regulatory in the Upper North Island and prepare a thoughtful question you’d like to ask in the interview about regional growth priorities and available support.
