You will contribute to strategic positions on regulatory issues, support the 2031-2036 Electricity Distribution Price Reset including modelling, stakeholder engagement and submission development, and help shape best-practice regulation through policy input and industry forums with bodies such as the AER, Victorian Government and AEMC. Build relationships with regulators, industry participants and consumer groups, provide regulatory insights to inform business decisions, and assist with day-to-day regulatory matters across cross-functional teams. A tertiary degree in Economics or related field, understanding of utility regulation and energy sector trends, and strong communication to influence diverse stakeholders are essential; highlight relevant submissions experience and apply directly. We’re seeking a Regulatory Economist to support strategy, policy development, and regulatory delivery for our electricity distribution network. This role contributes to Price Review strategy, regulatory proposals, and day-to-day regulatory requirements.

 

Based in Southbank, you’ll join the Distribution, Strategy & Regulation team.

 

What you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Contribute to strategic positions on key regulatory issues and support their implementation
  • Support delivery of the 2031–36 Electricity Distribution Price Reset, including modelling, stakeholder engagement, submission development, and AER engagement
  • Help shape best-practice economic regulation through policy input, industry forums, and stakeholder engagement (e.g. AER, Victorian Government, AEMC)
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, industry participants, and consumer groups to enhance the company's reputation as a highly credible and leading contributor in regulatory and industry development processes
  • Provide insights on regulatory impacts to support business decisions and policy development
  • Assist with day-to-day regulatory matters, including service standards schemes and cross-functional support (engineering, finance, customer teams)

 

 

You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:

  • Tertiary qualification in Economics or a related discipline
  • Understanding of the economic, corporate finance, legal, and commercial principles that underpin utility markets and their regulation
  • Knowledge of the energy sector, including regulatory frameworks and emerging trends
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and present to diverse stakeholders, including experience in preparation and presentation of formal submissions
