Research assistent internship 

 

The Vegetable Quality lab in Bergschenhoek, The Netherlands, is responsible for analytical support of all the different stages of the product development pipelines of fruits and vegetables across EMEA, ranging from breeding and testing trials to commercial launch. Our team enables databased selections and advancement decisions for consumer relevant traits. For this we use a combination of Consumer Sensory studies and analysis of characteristics associated with appearance, taste and health benefits, using a diverse set of routine (wet chemistry) assays, as well as innovative (non-destructive) approaches.

 

The work will be conducted under supervision of a small, experienced team, and will preferably start in March.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will learn to take charge of a project, cross-functional and international communication, and how to validate results obtained.
  • Participate in the development of a new, high-end, screening tool for rapid and efficient phenotyping of consumer relevant characteristics, while evaluating the performance of alternative techniques.
  • The internship will include a combination of data collection with several state-of-the-art instruments selected for this project
  • Applications of routine assays and techniques required for the ground truth (comparative) data
  • All the logistics involved in sample harvest & preparation, labeling and data management.

 

WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for an enthusiastic & accurate candidate who has:

  • HBO level education and thinking level
  • Not afraid to think outside the box and to speak up, and with a hands-on attitude required to make this project a success
  • The international character of our organization requires good knowledge (verbal & written) of both English and Dutch
  • Affinity with Microsoft 365 Office package is a must
  • Ability to use our company car is a strong pre
