About Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa

Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is a kaupapa Māori organisation grounded in a Whānau-first, Tikanga-based Wellbeing approach. Our mahi is guided by our six pou:Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Arohatanga, Rangatiratanga, Tika and Pono. We deliver health and social services across the lifespan and employ over 100 kaimahi working across Kirikiriroa and beyond.

Ngā Whare Tūhono

Ngā Whare Tūhono is a wellbeing home providing residential mental health support for tāne (18 years old and above). Our mahi is grounded in supporting each whanaunga on their pathway to wellbeing and independent living through strengths-based, tikanga-led practice.

About the Role

The Support Worker will provide wrap-around supports, based on the needs and plans of the whanaunga. This role focuses on addressing the social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of the whanaunga, empowering them to overcome challenges and build independence. The Support Worker will work collaboratively within team to deliver holistic, culturally grounded care in alignment with the kaupapa of Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa.

This is a casual position, with shifts offered on an as-needed basis. Shifts are 12 hours (7.00 - 7.00) and follow a four days on / four days off rotating roster, including weekends, where required.

This role is best suited to someone who is primarily available for weekend day shifts (7.00am–7.00pm). Additional weekday shifts may also be available from time to time, providing opportunities for increased hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver culturally responsive, whānau-centred social support.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with whanaunga and their whānau.
• Advocate for whanaunga and work with external agencies for coordinated care.
• Maintain accurate case notes and ensure compliance with reporting standards.
• Encourage independence by supporting whanaunga to access opportunities, services and community resources.

• Are positive role models who demonstrate integrity, compassion and professionalism.
• Can motivate, encourage and coach whanaunga to achieve their goals.
• Bring creativity and initiative to engage whanaunga in meaningful activities that enhance wellbeing.
• Hold (or are working towards) a Level 4 qualification in Health and Wellbeing, Mental Health, Social Services or a related field (preferred).
• Have experience supporting people undergoing significant mental health and addiction challenges, medical side-effects, and everyday stress.
• Have sound decision making skills especially in high pressure situations.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on empathy and cultural sensitivity.
• Possess a strong desire to work from a te ao Māori perspective, acknowledging contributions from both cultural and clinical perspectives.
• Have a full driver’s licence and proof of the right to work in New Zealand.
