Green by Nature is seeking a multiskilled Response Operator in Dannevirke to join the Tararua team. This full-time onsite role covers response and repairs, mowing, edging and more across parks and reserves, with opportunities to support the team during busy periods. You’ll be outdoors, handling gardening tasks, mower operations and reactive maintenance for council assets. The ideal candidate has a positive, flexible attitude and is willing to learn; gardening or outdoor maintenance experience is preferred but not essential, and a clean driver licence is required, with manual driving or trailer towing desirable. This is a hands-on, varied role ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is happy to roll up their sleeves wherever support is needed.

About the role:

This position is cross-functional, supporting the team across response and repairs, mowing, edging trimming and more. You’ll work across multiple workstreams, gaining exposure to a wide range of tasks and equipment.

Your work will include:

• Gardening and horticulture duties, including planting, pruning, and general grounds maintenance
• Mower operations across parks, reserves, and open spaces
• Supporting response and repairs work, including reactive maintenance tasks for council assets
• Assisting across the wider team during busy periods and annual leave as required

No two days will look the same, and teamwork will be key to success in this role.

What we’re looking for:

• A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to work across different duties
• Experience in gardening, horticulture, mowing, or outdoor maintenance (preferred but not essential)
• Comfort operating equipment or a willingness to learn
• Strong work ethic and pride in delivering quality outcomes for the community
• A full, clean driver licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and tow trailers being highly desirable
