BT Group is seeking a Retail Advisor to join its Norwich Chantry Place store, working onsite as part of the in-store team. The role centers on helping customers choose the right products and services, answering questions, and guiding purchases in person. BT Group is a major UK telecoms and technology provider with a network of retail locations, and this post would suit someone who enjoys customer contact and wants to contribute to successful store performance.

This position is a front-line role that benefits from a friendly approach, strong listening skills, and the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of customers. It’s a good match for you if you like solving problems for people on the spot and taking pride in delivering clear, helpful guidance in a retail setting.

Shifts are set to align with store trading times and the store operates seven days a week. The successful candidate should be flexible to work across Monday to Sunday, with hours that can change in response to store demand.

What You’ll Do Day To Day As A BT Retail Advisor

You’ll welcome customers, assess their needs, and explain options to help them make informed choices, all while handling transactions and keeping the store presentable. The role involves guiding people through products and services, answering questions, and maintaining a positive shopping environment by staying organized and responsive to requests. Teamwork matters, too, as staff collaborate to meet store targets and ensure a smooth customer journey.

Flexibility is built into the job, since shift patterns depend on store demand and can shift over time. There is a compensation element tied to performance, reflecting the on-target commission alongside base pay. BT Group frames it as a chance to grow with the business through training and progression opportunities, with support for developing product knowledge and customer service skills.

In this role, resilience and adaptability are valued. The team emphasizes the ability to stay calm under pressure, think on your feet, and build genuine relationships with customers who come into the store. The style is to value individuality while delivering consistent, friendly service that helps customers connect with the brand.

The Right Candidate For This BT Retail Advisor Role

The must-have is a customer-service mindset, with the capacity to stay calm under pressure, listen well, and communicate clearly. Flexibility to cover shifts across the week, including weekends, is essential. Prior retail experience isn’t required, because training will be provided to help you become the face of the brand.

Nice-to-haves include previous experience in sales or telecoms, familiarity with BT or similar product lines, and a track record of building relationships or meeting goals. If you’ve worked in a role where you helped customers select the right option and supported them through a decision, that would be a strong fit.

Pay And Practical Details For This Role

Pay for this role is £13.66 per hour for a 24-hour week. Location is Norwich Chantry Place, and work is onsite with hours aligned to store trading times, subject to change as store demand requires.

This is a regulated role and is subject to a bankruptcy check in addition to the company’s standard pre-employment checks.

  • £13.66 per hour + on-target commission
  • 24/7 Online GP access for you and your immediate family
  • Market-leading paid carer’s leave
  • Equal family leave – 18 weeks full pay and 8 weeks half pay for all new parents
  • Discounts on BT products
  • Career development support – training and progression opportunities
  • Season Ticket Travel Loan
  • Volunteering days
  • Optional Private Healthcare and Dental

Advice For Applicants For The BT Retail Advisor Position

Lead your resume with a clear customer-facing example. Start with a line about how you helped a real person in a service setting, what you listened for, and what outcome you delivered, since the role hinges on service and relationship-building.

To prove the must-haves, include stories that show you stayed composed during busy periods, adjusted to changing schedules, and guided someone to a solution. Quantify where you can, for example by noting outcomes like customer satisfaction, praise from a supervisor, or a smooth checkout experience.

In the interview, be ready to discuss how you stay calm under pressure, how you handle shifts that change, and how you explain product options to someone who’s just learning. Bring a concrete example of solving a customer problem quickly, and be prepared to talk about your approach to learning new products since training is provided.

Ask about the training plan and progression opportunities, and what success looks like in the first 90 days. A smart question could be how performance is measured in the Norwich Chantry Place store and what support exists to develop product knowledge and service skills.
