About the role 

We’re looking for an experienced Risk & External Reporting Manager to lead our enterprise risk management function and our non-financial external reporting across the Group. 

Reporting to the General Counsel, this role works closely with our Board, Audit & Risk Committee (ARC), and Executive Leadership Team to champion a strong risk culture, drive risk maturity, and ensure Summerset meets evolving governance and reporting requirements. 

This is a role with organisation wide influence—ideal for someone who thrives on complex problem solving, strategic thinking, and high level stakeholder engagement. 

This role can be based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead and enhance Summerset’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework 
  • Drive risk maturity and ensure risk processes support Summerset’s strategic goals 
  • Oversee implementation and use of Summerset’s ERM software platform 
  • Develop and deliver risk updates, deep dives and papers to the ARC 
  • Ensure risk methodologies, policies, and frameworks remain fit for purpose 
  • Manage Summerset’s Internal Audit Programme, including third-party internal auditors 
  • Report on internal controls, governance, compliance issues and audit outcomes 
  • Oversee climate and ESG risk monitoring and reporting, including preparing Summerset’s annual climate-related disclosures 
  • Monitor regulatory changes in NZ and Australia, including climate and modern slavery legislation 
  • Chair Summerset’s modern slavery working group and prepare the annual Modern Slavery Statement 
  • Lead all non-financial external reporting 

About You 

You are a senior risk professional with strong judgement, analytical capability, and the confidence to partner with senior leaders and the Board. You bring a pragmatic, solutions focused style and thrive in environments with diverse challenges and high organisational impact. 

You will also bring: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification 
  • Significant experience in a senior risk management role 
  • Experience working with Boards, Executive Teams and audit committees 
  • Strong commercial acumen and a strategic mindset 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage complex workflows 
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and building risk capability across the business 
  • Experience with climate related reporting is desirable but not essential
