The AA is hiring for Roadside Rescue Patrol in Milton Keynes. This is a full-time, permanent role with an average 40-hour week and a choice of shift patterns so you can fit work around your life. You’ll be out on the road as the friendly face members rely on when they’re stopped by the hard reality of a breakdown, and you’ll do it onsite in Milton Keynes as part of the UK’s largest motoring organisation.

If you enjoy delivering practical help, solving problems under pressure, and talking clearly to customers while you work independently, this could be a strong match. You’ll blend hands-on technical work with thoughtful service, getting drivers back on the road and building confidence for them today and tomorrow.

As a role with real independence on the road, you’ll also have the safety net of strong support from the team and the tools they provide to help you succeed. The AA isn’t just a brand you’ll represent, it's a platform to grow as a vehicle professional while making a real difference for everyday drivers.

Making a difference, one roadside challenge at a time

Day to day, you’ll start from your driveway and head out in your van to respond across varied locations and conditions. While you’re out on your own for stretches, you’ll remain an important part of a broader, supportive team. You’ll rely on your technical know-how and clear communication to explain what’s going on to customers and guide them through the next steps. When a job lands on you, you’ll diagnose the issue on the spot and apply your skills and calm, methodical approach to bring a quick and reliable resolution.

In practice, that means you’ll blend troubleshooting with hands-on repairs, drawing on your experience to handle a wide range of roadside situations. You’ll also be mindful of the member experience, keeping drivers informed and reassured as their day moves forward again. The work is varied, the hours can be flexible, and the payoff is the chance to deliver practical, visible help when someone needs it most.

Your toolkit for the road: what you’ll bring

  • NVQ3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent qualification with relevant hands-on experience
  • A full Category B driving licence with six points or fewer
  • Comfort using new technology and the willingness to use the tools provided to you
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

Pay, benefits and practical details

The pay package starts with a guaranteed earnings figure of £41,976, made up of a base salary of £38,270 plus a location allowance of £3,706. You’ll be paid from the moment you climb into your van until you get home after your shift. Top performers can earn up to £60,000, depending on the shift pattern you select and meeting performance targets. There is also a first-year sign-on bonus of £2,000 in addition to guaranteed earnings, subject to eligibility criteria and the terms of the scheme.

In addition to pay, the AA offers a range of benefits designed to support you day to day and over the longer term. This includes free breakdown cover from day one, up to 23 days of holiday (increasing with service), and a holiday buy scheme. You’ll also be eligible for a pension contribution of up to 7%, plus wellbeing and support tools like free physio and 24/7 virtual GP access, an Employee Assistance Programme, and remote GP services. There are also employee discounts and a host of other perks that come with being part of one of the country’s best-known motoring brands.

Independence on the road comes with its own rewards, the chance to build a career while you’re out in the field, backed by technology and the backing of a large organisation. It’s a role built for people who want to help drivers get moving again, whatever the weather or the hour.

Advice for applicants

Lead with your qualifications. Put your NVQ3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or the closest equivalent) at the top of your resume, and show any roadside or field-service experience you’ve gained, this is the core proof you meet the must-haves.

Demonstrate you’ve used diagnostic tools and hands-on fixes. When you describe past work, point to concrete examples where your technical skills helped a driver understand what was going on and how you resolved the issue on the roadside, ideally with a calm, customer-friendly approach.

Be ready to talk about your flexibility. The role requires shift work, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Think about a few scenarios where you adapted to changing schedules, and be prepared to discuss standby hours preferences and how you’d balance them with your personal life.

Ask for specifics that matter to you. A smart question to close on could be how standby hours are allocated year by year and how scheduling decisions are communicated, as well as what tech tools you’ll rely on most in day-to-day tasks on the road.
