Sanctuary AI is seeking a hands-on Robotics Technician in Vancouver to join a cross-functional R&D team. You’ll assemble, install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical robotic systems, contribute to rapid prototyping, system integration and hardware iterations, reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager. Success hinges on strong experience with precision mechanical and electrical maintenance, tool procurement and lab organization, plus the ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T. Prove you can partner with design and mechanical teams, perform diagnostics, and offer Design for Assembly feedback. Highlight CAD fluency (Fusion 360, SolidWorks), basic fabrication skills or willingness to learn, safety certifications, and a collaborative mindset.

Your New Role and TeamSanctuary, a world leader in building AI-based control systems for humanoid robots, is seeking an exceptional Robotics Technician to help accelerate our R&D and Product Development activities. Typical work will include the assembly, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of our state-of-the-art robotic systems.
As a Robotics Technician, reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager, you will work alongside a cross-functional engineering team and be responsible for hands-on technical work that directly supports rapid prototyping, system integration, testing, and iterative hardware development.

Our Success Criteria

  • Bring hands-on experience observing and maintaining robots during operation in and out of the lab, performing day-to-day mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Support tool and fixture jig design, lab organization, and tool procurement and installation.
  • Partner closely with design and mechanical teams to support testing, debugging, and functionality experiments.
  • Expand your technical capabilities by lapping, polishing, and fitting miniature mechanisms under a microscope.
  • Provide critical feedback to the design team in the form of Design for Assembly input and structured failure analysis through assembly tear-downs following failures or post-test inspections.
  • Help close the loop on design cycles by identifying recurring failure modes, assembly pain points, and opportunities to improve robustness, manufacturability, and serviceability.

  • Your Experience Qualifications
  • Technical degree or diploma from a Technical College or University such as biomedical technology, engineering technology, or instrumentation technology, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience assembling and maintaining a wide range of electro-mechanical devices.
  • Experience with fine manual work and precision assembly.
  • Extensive repair experience and basic to advanced custom fabrication experience such as computer or mobile device repair, watch repair, appliance repair, or similar.
  • CNC or manual machining experience, millwork, G-code programming, CAM such as Fusion 360 or MasterCam, 3D printing or additive manufacturing, plastic forming, laser welding, casting, or other relevant material manufacturing process experience is considered an asset but is not required. A willingness to learn and develop these skills is important.
  • CAD knowledge such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape, or equivalent.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and familiarity with proper drawing practices.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and feature tolerancing.

  • Skills
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and mechanisms.
  • Understanding of material properties of metals and plastics.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, technical, and analytical ability.
  • Proficient in operating hand tools, power tools, and common test equipment.
  • Organized and methodical approach to lab and workspace management.
  • First Aid, OFA, WHMIS, or other relevant safety certification is considered an asset.

  • Traits
  • Positive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Comfortable working as part of a collaborative engineering team.
  • Strong execution focus and drive to complete tasks efficiently and thoroughly.
  • Adaptable in a fast-paced R&D environment with shifting priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Capable of working independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

About Sanctuary AIFounded in 2018, Sanctuary builds humanoid robots and a novel control system for them that integrates symbolic logic and reasoning with data-driven robot foundation models. We use our robots to collect vision, audio, touch, and proprioception data from the perspective of the robot while they perform real-world work tasks. We use that data to train multimodal robot foundation models. Because our systems are vertically integrated, we can design, deploy, and refine at scale. Our mission is to create the world's first human-like intelligence in general-purpose robots.
