Job Description
What You'll Drive
- Maintain a continuous on site presence to monitor safe execution of daily O&M activities.
- Support the Permit to Work (PTW) process for maintenance and high risk activities, ensuring validity, completeness, and compliance.
- Verify isolation points, lockout devices, and energy control measures in accordance with LOTO procedures.
- Confirm that hot work, confined space, electrical, chemical, working at height, and excavation permits meet required safety standards.
- Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and operational deviations; ensure timely correction and follow up.
- Deliver toolbox talks, pre task briefings, and awareness sessions tailored to O&M specific hazards.
- Provide bilingual OHS training to enhance worker understanding and participation.
- Assist with incident and near miss reporting, ensuring accurate field data collection.
- Participate in preliminary investigation steps and escalate incidents in line with internal and client procedures.
- Support induction and onboarding of new staff and contractors, with emphasis on O&M process safety and site specific hazards.
- Maintain essential OHS documentation including inspection records, equipment registers, safety logs, and training attendance.
- Monitor proper handling, transfer, and storage of chemicals and verify correct use of PPE for chemical areas, ensuring compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) requirements.
- Uphold local regulatory and client specific OHS instructions, supporting plant wide assessments and independent safety surveys.
- Support the development and review of Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and task‑based risk assessments.
- Escalate safety concerns promptly and follow through until closure.
- Support emergency drill execution, emergency equipment inspections, and readiness for chemical spills, gas releases, electrical faults, or process upsets.
- Maintain basic safety reporting using Word/Excel and plant reporting tools.
- Generate short field reports, observation notes, and inspection summaries.
- The position reports directly to the BESIX O&M OHS Engineer.
Qualifications
You're a Great Fit if You Have
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), with proven experience in O&M, utilities, process plants, or industrial O&M.
- Demonstrated experience working in multicultural environments across the Middle East.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred)
- High School Diploma (essential)
- NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
- KHDA OHS-related certification
- Additional HSE certifications (e.g., OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, Fire Safety, Confined Space Entry) are considered an advantage
- Practical knowledge of PTW, LOTO, confined spaces, H2S, ATEX, electrical safety, and chemical hazards
- Ability to write basic reports and use Excel and Word
- Fit to work in industrial environments and in shift-based operations
- Accreditation by a government body is a plus
