SAP S4 Hana Functional Expert

to join our team at the Central Post office in the heart of Rotterdam.

As the SAP S/4HANA Functional Expert, you ensure the correct, stable, and consistent use of SAP S/4HANA across business processes. You act as the key interface between business stakeholders, IT, and the external consultancy partner. In this role, you focus on resolving complex functional issues, governing changes, and driving continuous improvement of SAP‑enabled processes.

Requirements

What the role entails:

• Act as functional owner for SAP S/4HANA process areas (Finance, Sales, Procurement, Logistics, Manufacturing, Reporting)

• Provide 2nd‑line functional support for complex or cross‑process incidents

• Analyse issues end‑to‑end, identify root causes, and define functional solutions or workarounds

• Ensure recurring issues are structurally resolved and reduce reliance on reactive support

• Act as primary functional contact for the consultancy partner

• Escalate L3 issues with clear analysis, scenarios, and business impact assessment

• Review and validate external proposals, fixes, and recommendations

• Coordinate implementation, testing, and deployment of system changes and fixes

• Support SAP/vendor interactions, including review of SAP responses and follow‑up coordination

• Perform impact analysis for releases, changes, and enhancements

• Coordinate and/or execute functional testing and validation before deployment

• Drive continuous improvement of business processes, system usage, and stability

• Act as trusted partner to Business Process Owners and translate requirements into SAP solutions

• Ensure alignment with standard processes and promote fit‑to‑standard approach

• Oversee integrations, reporting, and data flows from a functional perspective

• Maintain documentation (processes, runbooks, known errors) and improve L1 support capability

To excel in this role, you bring:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT or a related field

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience

• Fluent in Business English, German is a strong plus

• Experience contributing to or leading workstreams in ERP transformation programs (preferably S/4HANA)

• Strong affinity for data, technology, and system-driven business processes

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Clear communicator, able to explain complex topics to different audiences across IT and business

• Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills at all organizational levels

• Structured, pragmatic, and ownership-driven working style

• Comfortable operating between operational support and continuous process improvement

SAP Functional Expertise needed for the role:

• Strong functional experience with SAP S/4HANA in one or more core business domains

• Proven experience in L2 SAP support or functional ownership roles

• Solid understanding of end‑to‑end SAP business processes

• Hands‑on experience with SAP Fiori applications

• Experience working within a structured ITIL-based support model (Incident, Problem, Change)

• Proven ability to coordinate effectively with external support partners (e.g. SAP, system integrators, consultants)

• Familiarity with SAP authorisations and user access concepts from a functional perspective

• Experience supporting SAP-related reporting, data, and integration topics
