Ericsson’s AI R&D internship on Semantic Communication and MARL is a six‑month, onsite opportunity in Massy Palaiseau to help shape how fleets of robots, vehicles, and drones coordinate under real wireless constraints. You will study and implement MARL architectures, develop semantic communication protocols, explore world models for generalization, and run experiments in realistic environments while contributing to published research. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s in Telecommunication Engineering or equivalent, with solid AI/ML and RL skills, strong programming ability, and interest in Physical AI, robotics, or wireless networks. Highlight papers you’ve read or implemented, MARL or world-model projects, and any Docker/Kubernetes experience. Tailor your resume and cover letter to show impact, collaboration, and curiosity.

About This Opportunity

Join Ericsson as an AI/ML Intern in the AI R&D team and contribute to cutting-edge research in distributed intelligence and wireless coordination for future Physical AI systems. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on the intersection of Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL), semantic communications, and robotics—shaping how fleets of robots, connected vehicles, drones, and industrial cyber-physical systems will communicate and coordinate intelligently.

You will collaborate with a team of researchers tackling one of the most pressing challenges in Physical AI: enabling efficient, scalable communication among multiple intelligent agents operating under real-world wireless constraints. This is applied research with direct impact on future autonomous systems.

Please note this is a 6 months internship.

What You Will Do

  • Study and Implement State-of-the-Art MARL Architectures: Design and implement Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning communication systems that operate under realistic wireless constraints, including limited bandwidth, latency, interference, and decoupled communication-policy approaches.
  • Develop Semantic Communication Mechanisms: Create innovative communication protocols that allow agents to exchange task-relevant semantic information (intentions, uncertainties, predicted states, coordination objectives) rather than raw observations, optimizing coordination performance while minimizing communication overhead.
  • Explore World Models and Generalization: Investigate predictive world models and latent representations to improve cooperation, robustness, and generalization across varying numbers of agents, environments, and communication conditions. Leverage insights from compositional world models and emerging Physical AI foundation models (e.g., NVIDIA Cosmos).
  • Design and Run Experiments: Develop and evaluate your methods on realistic wireless-network and Physical AI environments, including Mobile-Env and established MARL benchmarks from the literature.
  • Contribute to Research: Read, understand, and implement recent research papers from top-tier venues (ICLR, NeurIPS), analyze algorithm behavior, and contribute insights that advance the field.

The Skills You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Strong background in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with solid knowledge of Reinforcement Learning
  • Demonstrated interest in Physical AI, Multi-Agent Systems, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, or Wireless Networks
  • Excellent programming skills and proficiency with deep learning frameworks
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement research papers from top-tier AI/ML venues
  • Experience with Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL), world models, or semantic communications is highly valued
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker), Kubernetes, or GPU computing is a strong plus
  • Curious, autonomous, and motivated by applied research with real-world impact
