The role
As a Senior Capital Investment Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping how Vector plans and invests in its network. Working closely with the Capital Investment Manager, you’ll support the development of the Asset Management Plan (AMP) by translating technical scope into high-quality cost estimates, business cases, and investment recommendations. You’ll bring a strong planning discipline and attention to detail, ensuring decisions are robust, well-informed, and aligned to customer, regulatory, and organisational outcomes.
Day to day, you’ll build and refine cost models, analyse options, and work across teams including finance business partners, network planning, network performance, network maintenance and capital delivery to ensure investment decisions are practical and achievable. You’ll also play a key role in improving estimation tools, processes, and data integration, helping lift capability across the team while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement.
What makes this role stand out is the variety and impact. You’ll work across a broad mix of assets and projects, from legacy infrastructure through to emerging technologies, with exposure to both current network challenges and future-focused investment. It’s a highly collaborative role where you’ll partner across the business, contribute to improving systems and tools, and help shape infrastructure that directly supports Auckland’s communities.
