You will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality, safe, and constructible civil designs, while supporting project execution, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to the continuous improvement of standards, tools, and best practices.

The Senior Civil Engineer role balances strong hands-on technical capability with project leadership, technical oversight, client interaction, and support to the broader Civil Engineering function across multidisciplinary projects in the energy, chemicals, mining, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery & Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and execute civil engineering design activities for medium to large, complex projects.

  • Develop and review civil engineering deliverables, including:

    • Site development and grading plans

    • Earthworks, drainage, and stormwater management designs

    • Roads, access ways, pavements, and hardstand areas

    • Underground utilities, services, and infrastructure layouts

    • Design calculations, technical reports, and specifications

  • Ensure designs are safe, constructible, and compliant with applicable codes, standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.

  • Resolve complex technical issues, non-standard design conditions, and design deviations.

  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to Intermediate and Junior Civil Engineers.

  • Perform and coordinate independent checks and technical reviews of civil deliverables.

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Act as a Senior Civil Engineer on project teams, coordinating closely with project management, other engineering disciplines, designers, and clients.

  • Contribute to development of civil scopes of work, execution plans, schedules, and staffing plans.

  • Support project delivery through all phases of the project lifecycle (concept, FEED, detailed design, and construction support).

  • Provide technical input to change management, technical risk mitigation, and resolution of scope or design changes.

  • Interface with clients, contractors, vendors, and construction teams on technical matters.

Quality, Safety & Standards

  • Champion safety in design, engineering quality, and technical excellence across all civil engineering activities.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate engineering standards and applicable industry codes and regulations (e.g., CSA, municipal and provincial standards, transportation and civil infrastructure codes).

  • Participate in design reviews, audits, and lessons-learned initiatives.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of civil engineering standards, tools, templates, and work processes.

Mentorship & Capability Development

  • Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and guidance to junior members of the civil engineering team.

  • Support the technical development of the discipline through knowledge sharing, training, and on-the-job development.

  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex civil engineering challenges within project teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree considered an asset).

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada (or eligible for registration).

  • Significant experience delivering civil engineering work on industrial, energy, mining, infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects.

  • Proven experience performing and reviewing civil design across the full project lifecycle (concept through detailed design and construction support).

  • Strong technical expertise in site development, earthworks, drainage, and civil infrastructure design.

  • Solid working knowledge of applicable design codes, standards, and industry best practices.

  • Experience supporting proposals, estimates, and front-end engineering activities is considered an asset.

Core Competencies
