Job Purpose and Impact

This position is responsible for the dairy trading for Cargill Cocoa and Chocolate Europe with the primary goal of serving our 7 European chocolate plants and maximizing the PnL. Within a well-defined set of risk limits you take positions, manage the operational margins and guarantee a smooth running pipeline in order to maximize the book’s PnL. The positions are a combination of physical product and futures. As such you aim for an optimal view on dairy futures, differentials and smaller illiquid product families. You bear end responsibility of the dairy market analysis that you will perform with the help of the second dairy trader. You stipulate the plan on the analysis and delegate this to the dairy trader and yourself. Besides the risk management role, this function contains a supporting/advising role towards our sales and external customers. You will serve as a back-up trader for other chocolate ingredients and will as well join the broader cocoa and chocolate trading teams in Schiphol.

Key Accountabilities

  • Optimize our dairy position and creating PnL for our 7 EU chocolate plants (physical and futures)
  • Optimize our supplier network
  • Apply a deep comprehension of trading practices and procedures to develop and execute the long-term trading strategies and books for a specific commodity, market or customer based on speculative and hedged positions
  • Monitor our team's profit and loss on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Independently handle and monitor higher trading positions and exposures
  • Work with strategic brokers, customers and agents, as needed, to manage and monitor higher risk trading positions
  • Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
    • Minimum 6 years of commodity trading experience. Experience in the physical and futures markets
    • Be able to build an internal network within the business unit
    • Self-starting / entrepreneurial
    • Fluent in English

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Additional European languages (French/Spanish/Dutch/German) is a plus.
