Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary **Senior Engineer - Material** to join our dynamic team in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. In this pivotal role, you will lead and manage all material engineering and quality control activities for large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring that all construction materials comply with contract requirements, approved specifications, authority regulations, and applicable international standards. You will provide strategic technical leadership while collaborating closely with project teams, contractors, laboratories, suppliers, and regulatory authorities to drive material excellence and project success.

  • Lead the review, analysis, and approval of material submittals, manufacturers' data, technical specifications, and compliance certificates with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ensure all materials comply with contract requirements, project specifications, UAE authority standards, and relevant international codes (ASTM, AASHTO, BS, EN)
  • Evaluate alternative material proposals and provide innovative technical recommendations that optimize project outcomes
  • Oversee comprehensive laboratory and field testing programs to verify material compliance and quality assurance
  • Review and validate test reports, mix designs, trial results, and quality certifications with analytical rigor
  • Implement and monitor approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) related to construction materials throughout the project lifecycle
  • Conduct thorough supplier, manufacturer, batching plant, asphalt plant, precast yard, and quarry evaluations
  • Participate in factory inspections and source approvals to ensure material quality at the origin
  • Monitor material storage, handling, transportation, and installation to ensure only approved materials are incorporated into the works
  • Lead investigations into material-related non-conformances and quality issues, recommending decisive preventive and corrective actions
  • Coordinate seamlessly with clients, contractors, testing laboratories, suppliers, manufacturers, and authorities regarding material-related matters
  • Mentor and support Material Engineers and Material Inspectors, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Maintain comprehensive material approval registers, testing records, and quality databases with organizational excellence
  • Prepare detailed material status reports, quality dashboards, and management summaries for stakeholder transparency
  • Identify material risks proactively and recommend mitigation measures to support efficient project delivery
  • Champion continuous improvement and innovation in material engineering practices and quality management systems

Qualifications

**Education:**

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline
  • Postgraduate qualification in Materials Engineering or Construction Management (preferred)

**Experience:**

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in material engineering and quality management on major infrastructure projects
  • At least 5 years in a senior-level position as a Senior Material Engineer, Material Manager, or equivalent role
  • Proven expertise in infrastructure projects including roads, asphalt, concrete, utilities, drainage, sewerage, potable water, irrigation, electrical, and public realm works
  • Extensive hands-on experience with laboratory testing, material approvals, supplier assessments, and quality management systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UAE authority requirements and infrastructure material specifications
  • Strong background in FIDIC contracts, QA/QC systems, and infrastructure construction methodologies

**Technical Skills & Knowledge:**

  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction materials and international standards (ASTM, AASHTO, BS, EN)
  • Advanced proficiency in reviewing material submittals, mix designs, technical specifications, and laboratory reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and document management systems (Asite or similar platforms)
  • Strong understanding of quality documentation and compliance procedures
  • Expertise in material compliance, testing protocols, and quality assurance frameworks
