We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our Storage Systems tribe in the Messaging Squad.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to drive the evolution of our messaging platform built on Kafka. In this role, you'll lead a team that maintains the foundations of our messaging infrastructure, which handles hundreds of millions of messages daily across all aspects of our business. Your leadership will be crucial as we scale our asynchronous message-driven architecture to support Super’s continued growth, collaborating with platform framework teams to build common SDKs and abstractions that streamline usage and monitoring.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of engineers. Cultivate career growth, manage performance, and create a collaborative environment where engineers can thrive and create impact.
  • Drive the evolution of our messaging platform. Ensure our Kafka-based infrastructure is scalable, reliable, and optimized to handle hundreds of millions of daily messages.
  • Collaborate with platform framework teams. Build common SDKs and abstractions to streamline usage, provide healthy guardrails, and enhance monitoring capabilities.
  • Make key technical and architectural decisions. Guide the team in architectural and technical decisioning related to distributed messaging systems.
  • Foster operational excellence. Implement and maintain best practices for monitoring, alerting, and incident response to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Align team objectives with business goals. Ensure your team's work delivers meaningful impact on product reliability and business growth.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 4 years of engineering management experience, preferably in a data engineering or storage team capacity.
  • Strong technical depth in Kafka or similar distributed messaging systems to effectively guide the team in architectural and technical decisioning.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, cloud resource provisioning, and implementing operational excellence practices.
  • Understanding of asynchronous message-driven architectures and their application in large-scale systems.
  • Familiarity with data engineering and analytics workflows that rely on messaging infrastructure.
  • Strong people management skills including expectation management, business value alignment, performance management, and career growth cultivation.
  • Excellent communication abilities to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization.
  • Strategic thinking to balance immediate delivery needs with long-term technical vision and platform evolution.
