Essex County Council are pleased to be supporting Harlow District Council to recruit a temporary Senior/Environmental Health Officer on an initial 3-month basis. Please note that this post requires the successful individual to be based on site 4 days per week from September 2026.

Harlow is a district of contrasts and an ideal location to both live and work. The town itself is thriving, with excellent shopping and leisure facilities for all ages. We have good road links to the M11 and M25 and excellent rail connections to London and Stansted Airport, just 35 minutes and 20 minutes away from Harlow respectively.

The role:

  • The role will involve carrying out HHSRS inspections, serving Improvement Notices, managing HMO licensing, issuing civil penalties, and supporting prosecutions
  • Support housing trainees while helping to strengthen the authority's compliance approach and implement new legislative requirements, including the Renters' Rights Act 2025, and related legislation

The Experience you will bring:

  • Holds a Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent (i.e. Diploma in Environmental Health) (desirable)
  • Registered with Environmental Health Registration Board (desirable)
  • Previous relevant experience gained within a local authority setting
