Auckland Council is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its Regulatory Engineering team in a full time onsite role based in Central Auckland, with hybrid working options and a salary range of $105,579 to $140,000 plus a 3.5% KiwiSaver contribution. Lead complex geotechnical assessments, influence engineering standards, and provide specialist advice on land development projects across New Zealand’s largest local authority.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Auckland Council’s Regulatory Engineering Department in providing essential civil engineering expertise to our Building and Resource Consenting departments. We also play a crucial role in ensuring Auckland’s growth is supported by safe, sustainable. high-quality infrastructure, working closely with asset owners, Watercare, Healthy Waters, Parks, and Auckland Council’s transportation department. 

As a senior member of the team, you will provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, contribute to engineering standards and guidance, and act as a trusted advisor on complex geotechnical matters.

You can expect to:

• lead and support consent, compliance, natural hazard, and risk management activities to ensure the successful completion and operations of Land use activities
• review geotechnical investigations and designs prepared by external consultants
• contribute to the development of engineering standards, guidance, and best practices
• mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across the organisation

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are an experienced geotechnical professional with strong technical capability, sound engineering judgement, and excellent stakeholder management skills. You bring experience from consulting, local government, or a similar environment and are comfortable providing advice on complex engineering and natural hazard matters.

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline
• significant New Zealand experience in geotechnical investigations, assessments, and design reviews
• strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles relating to land development, infrastructure, and buildings
• experience providing technical leadership and mentoring
• a sound understanding of relevant New Zealand legislation, standards, and industry practices.
• CPEng status (or the ability to obtain it) would be highly desirable.
