We're looking for an experienced Senior Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly kitchen team at Tingley Garden Centre.

This is more than just a kitchen role. You'll be a key support to our Kitchen Supervisor, helping to lead by example, maintain high standards, and ensure our customers enjoy great food every day. What you'll be doing

No two days are quite the same, but you'll spend your time:


👨‍🍳 Helping to keep the kitchen running smoothly

  • Supporting the Kitchen Supervisor with the day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
  • Stepping up to lead the team and run the pass when the Supervisor isn't there.
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure service runs efficiently, even during busy periods.
  • Supporting the Lead Chef with tasks and projects as required.

🍽️ Preparing and serving great food

  • Preparing, cooking and presenting food to consistently high standards.
  • Ensuring food quality, presentation, portion control and timing are always on point.
  • Washing, peeling, chopping, cutting and preparing ingredients for service.
  • Managing production levels to meet demand whilst helping to reduce waste.

✅ Keeping standards high

  • Supporting food safety and due diligence processes, including temperature checks, labelling, date coding and record keeping.
  • Ensuring stock is rotated correctly and products are stored safely.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, including preparation areas, floors, equipment and utensils.
  • Making sure food hygiene, health & safety and Environmental Health standards are followed at all times.
  • Championing allergen awareness and ensuring procedures are followed correctly.

📦 Looking after stock and deliveries

  • Assisting with stock takes and stock control.
  • Helping maintain appropriate stock levels and supporting ordering when required.
  • Receiving, checking, storing and rotating deliveries.
  • Finding ways to minimise waste and make the best use of ingredients.

🧽 Using equipment safely and effectively

  • Operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers and pot wash machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Washing dishes, utensils and equipment and ensuring everything is cleaned and stored correctly.
  • Collecting and disposing of waste safely and responsibly.

  • Being a positive role model for colleagues.
  • Helping team members learn, develop and maintain excellent standards.
  • Supporting team meetings, reviews and return-to-work discussions when needed.
  • Building strong working relationships across the business and contributing to a positive team culture.

What we're looking for

Essential

✔ Previous experience working in a kitchen or catering environment

✔ Strong understanding of food hygiene, health & safety and allergen awareness

✔ A positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in

✔ Great communication and teamwork skills

✔ The ability to stay organised and prioritise tasks in a busy environment

✔ A commitment to delivering high standards every day

It would be great if you also have...

⭐ Previous experience supervising or supporting a team

⭐ Experience with stock control, ordering or stock takes

⭐ Experience coaching or training colleagues

⭐ A Food Safety or Food Hygiene qualification
