Merck Group is hiring for a hands-on, global leadership role that sits at the center of SUSONITY’s commercial organization. The Senior Pricing & Commercial Excellence Manager & Team Lead will own the global pricing discipline and the broader commercial-excellence agenda, shaping how the business captures value from its surface technologies worldwide. The role is onsite in Darmstadt, Germany, and is best suited for someone who enjoys turning strategic intent into practical steps, while coordinating with Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Finance across regions.

The ideal candidate brings a track record of building pricing capability and leading cross-functional programs in a fast-moving, international setting. This is a high-impact position where you’ll define how the company goes to market, drive margin expansion and ensure pricing decisions align with customer value and market dynamics.

If you want a role that blends analytics, strategy and people leadership, and you’re excited to shape a global operating model that other functions rely on, this opportunity could be a strong fit.

Pricing leadership that travels across borders

You will own the global pricing agenda, establishing a strategy that reflects business goals, customer value and market realities. Expect to implement governance, principles and approval processes that standardize how pricing decisions are made across regions and businesses, while still allowing for regional nuance. Driving value-based pricing, price differentiation and stronger price realization will be central, supported by transparent analytics and performance tracking. You’ll work closely with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Finance and regional leaders to embed pricing excellence into daily commercial choices and uncover opportunities to improve margins and sustainable growth. Expect to champion the use of pricing software and digital tools to enable timely, scalable, fact-based decisions.

Beyond pricing, you’ll steward SUSONITY’s global commercial-excellence platform. The work includes shaping a strategy that lifts sales force effectiveness, refining how customer segmentation, lead management, opportunity tracking and campaign performance come together, and turning data into actionable insights through meaningful KPIs and dashboards. You’ll promote the ongoing use of Salesforce and other commercial technologies, develop standardized processes, and help regions align while keeping space for regional flexibility. Launch excellence for new products and campaigns will be a joint effort with Marketing, Product Management and regional teams, and you’ll lend hands when supporting post-merger integration to build a scalable operating model.

In this global remit, you’ll lead a team of specialists and coordinate a broad network of stakeholders across Commercial, Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Finance. Your job is to create clarity, generate momentum and translate strategic priorities into practical execution, challenging old ways of working and turning commercial excellence into a shared capability.

What you’ll need to lead this

  • A university degree in Business Administration, Commercial Management, Sales, Finance or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in commercial excellence, pricing, sales operations, commercial strategy or a comparable leadership role, ideally in a B2B or chemical industry setting
  • A proven track record in developing and implementing pricing strategies, governance, value-based pricing or related commercial-performance initiatives
  • A clear understanding of how pricing relates to customer value, sales effectiveness and profitable growth
  • Experience leading teams, cross-functional programs and global stakeholder networks
  • Strong command of CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and familiarity with pricing software and analytics tools
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual abilities, with a talent for turning insights into clear decisions and practical actions
  • Proven project and change-management skills, able to drive complex initiatives in a fast-moving international environment
  • Exceptional communication, influencing and negotiation skills, comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders
  • A pragmatic, entrepreneurial and collaborative leadership style
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage

  • Experience demonstrating measurable profitability from global pricing initiatives across multiple regions
  • Background leading teams of pricing and commercial-excellence specialists and scaling processes worldwide
  • Hands-on involvement in product launches and go-to-market campaigns with cross-functional partners
  • Multilingual capabilities or proven experience working in multinational environments

Advice for applicants

Position your resume to front-load your global pricing leadership experience, especially where you built or governed pricing governance and value-based pricing processes. Show how your work translated into concrete business outcomes, not just concepts.

When you describe your must-have capabilities, cite a specific cross-functional program you led that connected Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Finance, and include the measurable outcomes you achieved in margins or price realization.

Prepare for interviews by outlining a pricing initiative you drove from idea to execution, including the technology or tools you used (such as pricing software or Salesforce) and the KPIs you tracked to prove impact.

Ask a targeted question about how pricing governance operates across regions today and which metrics matter most to SUSONITY right now, plus how they balance global principles with regional flexibility.
