Actively handling lease expiries, renewals, and the negotiation of complex legal documents, including statutory right of ways, easements, and licenses

 

Financial Lease Controller: Drive operational excellence in lease accounting for thousands of sites, including lease tracking, payment processing, reconciliations, and variance analysis for infrastructure lease expenses

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Portfolio Strategy & Negotiation: Manage the real estate lease portfolio proactively handling lease expiries, renewals, and the negotiation of complex legal documents, including statutory right of ways, easements, and licenses
  • Financial Lease Controller: Drive operational excellence in lease accounting for thousands of sites, including lease tracking, payment processing, reconciliations, and variance analysis for infrastructure lease expenses
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all lease agreements comply with IFRS 16 accounting standards and internal controls. You will prepare detailed monthly financial reports and present them to senior finance leaders, providing insights on portfolio performance and financial impacts. Collaborating closely with the Corporate Finance team
  • Stakeholder & Vendor Management: Engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including landlords, government authorities (ISED), First Nations, and internal corporate finance teams
  • Process Optimization: Evaluate procedures and implement process improvements in lease management systems (such as SAP) to enhance data integrity and operational efficiency

 

 

Qualifications

 

What you bring 

 

  • Professional Background: 10+ years of experience in commercial lease management, with at least 5 years specifically in lease accounting or financial management within the telecommunications or infrastructure industries.
  • Education & Certification: A University degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance. An accounting designation (CPA) or working toward one is highly preferred to manage the controllership aspects of the role.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Expert knowledge of IFRS 16 and general accounting principles
    • Advanced proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite
    • Ability to interpret both complex legal documents (leases, land titles) and construction drawings (surveys, engineering designs)
    • Leveraging AI and new technologies to optimize tasks

 

Great-to-haves

 

  • Master Negotiator: Recognized expert in commercial leasing and federal government requirements for telecommunication assets
  • Linguistic Skills: Bilingual in French and English with excellent communication skills to manage the Eastern Canada portfolio and engage national stakeholders
  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve complex lease administration issues
  • Project Ownership: Strong organizational skills to drive projects to completion on time or ahead of schedule
