Senior Rotating Engineer
WorleyWorley, a global engineering and project-delivery firm with roots in Australia, is looking for a Senior Rotating Engineer to join its Abu Dhabi team on site. The role sits in the mechanical discipline and focuses on the design, selection and procurement support for rotating equipment on onshore oil and gas projects. It’s a full-time, employee position that suits an experienced professional who enjoys hands-on technical leadership in a multinational setting. The job code ABU02FT is the reference for this opening.
The position reports to the Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineer and is based in ARE-AD-Abu Dhabi City. Worley partners with clients to deliver projects across the asset lifecycle, combining engineering, procurement and construction expertise with AI-enabled delivery to manage complexity and drive sustainable solutions.
If you bring 12+ years of relevant rotating equipment experience, a track record of leading projects, and a strong background with API standards for onshore equipment, this could align with your career goals.
Engineering the heartbeat of the project
You’ll operate largely independently on a wide range of assignments, applying advanced engineering concepts, codes and practices to produce robust design deliverables. The role calls for strong technical judgment and the ability to mentor other engineers on larger efforts while coordinating with multiple disciplines to keep work on track. You’ll participate in client workshops covering design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, constructability, sustainability, reliability and quality reviews, and you’ll help ensure that health, safety, environmental and security requirements are built into the work from day one. In procurement, you’ll contribute to equipment specifications and data sheets, support technical bid evaluation, and help manage third-party interfaces and vendor information. On site, you’ll provide field input to resolve issues and support turnover, testing, and commissioning activities as needed.
What it takes to lead the rotating arena
Must-have requirements
- Twelve plus years in mechanical rotating engineering with a solid grasp of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry practices; able to estimate project costs and draft proposal content.
- Proven ability to lead projects, with deep expertise in at least one regulatory or standards domain within the discipline.
- Training in risk management or quality to support disciplined project execution.
- A four- or five-year technical degree in science or engineering and active licensure with a local engineering governing body where legally required.
- A senior-level professional with advanced knowledge, capable of guiding small teams or multiple engineers on projects.
- Active license with a local engineering governing body where required by law.
- Expert knowledge in design and selection of rotating equipment for onshore oil and gas projects of comparable complexity, with the ability to move through concept, FEED and detailed design phases and to coordinate procurement and third parties (preferred).
- Experience on onshore projects in the Middle East is preferred.
- Ability to participate in client workshops for design review, HAZID, HAZOP, constructability, sustainability, reliability and quality reviews.
- Experience developing the Basis of Design and equipment selection philosophy, and preparing specifications, mechanical data sheets and requisitions, including conducting technical bid evaluations for rotating equipment and packages.
- A demonstrated ability to deliver quality work accurately and on time, including document checking and design verification across disciplines.
- Extensive knowledge of codes and standards, especially API standards for rotating equipment (API-610, 617, 618, 682, 614, 674, 675, 682) and familiarity with other international codes and onshore engineering practices.
- Expert knowledge and experience in rotating equipment types such as gas turbine drivers, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, rotary compressors, centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, fans and blowers, plus miscellaneous packages.
- Strong procurement support and package management experience, including manufacturer ITPs, sub-supplier orders, material certification, welding, NDE and FAT processes, and inspection release.
- Experience participating in project execution strategy and planning, with the ability to coordinate with other disciplines to meet scope and schedule.
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental expectations applied through SEAL to drive safe and sustainable engineering outcomes during the asset lifecycle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; familiarity with Access and PowerPoint and cross-discipline data-centric methods (desirable).
- Strong people skills, able to work effectively in a small, high-visibility team and to collaborate with senior stakeholders.
Compensation and practical details
The role is onsite in Abu Dhabi City, UAE, and runs on a full-time, employee basis. Worley’s leadership structure places the Senior Rotating Engineer under the Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineer. An active local engineering license is required where law dictates, and Worley expects candidates to meet those licensing requirements as applicable. The posting window for this role runs from October 10, 2026, to January 8, 2027, and the reference code for this position is ABU02FT.
Other practical details include the expectation that the role focuses on onshore mechanical-rotating engineering with a clear emphasis on design, procurement support and site coordination as part of the asset lifecycle. While travel isn’t specified in the posting, experience with complex, multi-discipline projects in the Middle East is noted as a preferred background.
Advice for applicants
Lead your resume with your 12+ years of rotating equipment experience and call out your onshore oil and gas project work, especially any gas turbines, compressors and pumps you’ve designed or specified.
Show how you prove the must-have skills by naming concrete projects where you led discipline execution, developed basis of design documents, prepared equipment specifications, and conducted technical bid evaluations for rotating packages.
Be ready to talk about client workshops you’ve participated in, such as design reviews and HAZID/HAZOP sessions, and how you contributed to constructability and reliability discussions while keeping safety and quality at the forefront.
Ask a thoughtful question about how Worley structures discipline execution for rotating equipment on onshore Middle East projects, or how the SEAL framework is applied to optimize asset lifecycle health, safety and sustainability in their teams.
