Transport for NSW is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer - Telecommunications to join the Major Works Operational Technology team in Auburn, NSW, on a permanent full‑time, on‑site basis. In this role you will provide technical management, subject‑matter expertise and Design Authority oversight for Sydney Trains’ operational telecommunications assets and lead systems engineering and integration activities on high complexity projects. You will need carrier grade IP/MPLS expertise with Nokia technologies, CCNP level or above (CCIE preferred), and hands on experience designing, implementing and optimizing large scale telecom networks and enterprise firewall platforms. A tertiary qualification in Electrical or Telecommunications engineering and eligibility for graduate membership of Engineers Australia are required. In this role, you'll:


Work as part of the Major Works Operational Technology team this role will see you provide technical management activities, subject-matter expertise and Design Authority function on Sydney Trains’ operational Telecommunications systems assets and lead Systems Engineering and technical integration activities for systems and high complexity projects.

Your day will vary between System Engineering activities associated with performing Functional Analysis on Telecommunications Systems, leading and managing Fixed Telecommunications Network (FTN) system integration design activities and facilitating change management activities associated with commissioning of any new/alterations of FTN system into operation.

We are seeking a highly experienced candidate with strong expertise in carrier-grade IP/MPLS networks, particularly Nokia technologies.

 

The ideal candidate will possess advanced networking skills equivalent to CCNP level or above (CCIE preferred) and have hands-on experience designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and optimizing large-scale telecommunications and mission-critical networks.

 

The successful candidate will also have extensive experience with enterprise and service provider firewall platforms.

You will play a key part in providing a communication between vital components of systems which lead to high reliable network connections which has a big impact on safe and reliable rail operations.

About you


Your extensive experience with the design and implementation of Transmission systems including MPLS and TDM over IP and experience in practical application of Systems Engineering methodologies across system development stages from specifications through to validation, will see you in a role where you can experience stakeholder engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders across the Sydney Trains business and join a highly inclusive and collaborative team.

You will also be tertiary qualified in Electrical/Telecommunications engineering and qualify for graduate membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
