Job Description

Griffith Film School is seeking an experienced and highly motivated production equipment logistics specialist to support students and staff engaged in practical learning, teaching and research activities.

The Senior Technical Officer works closely with the Technical Team Leader, academic and professional stakeholders and students to ensure our media production resources are well maintained, fit for purpose and maximally available.  

The position is responsible for the operational and administrative management of inventory, maintenance, planning, reporting, and communication. The role provides leadership to technical and professional staff, oversees systems and processes, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to align with best practice, risk mitigation, and University standards. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to manage, schedule and plan resource utilisation and actively contribute to the improvement of school systems and processes to achieve same. 
  • Provide high level support for staff and students in the use of specialised production equipment across teaching, learning, research and engagement.  
  • Supervise and support technical staff, deliver training, assist with labour cost forecasting, and participate in a rotational roster as required.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and agencies to stay informed of technological advances, and procure materials and equipment using the university financial systems.
  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Griffith Film School technical team, including managing communications and publishing key announcements via email, SharePoint and Canvas platforms.

About you 
To be successful in this position, you will hold a relevant tertiary qualification combined with experience in the screen media industry or a related field.  You must hold an unrestricted QLD driver’s license (C or CA), or ability to acquire same.

In addition to the above, you will also have: 

  • High level logistics, administrative and communication capabilities. 
  • Demonstrated experience with various screen media production technologies including cinema cameras, production lighting and sound recording equipment. 
  • Strategic planning and troubleshooting capability. 
  • Demonstrated ability with navigating and aggregating data across disparate digital and real-world sources to inform inventory management and scheduling. 
  • Demonstrated ability using Microsoft O365 tools including Excel, Sharepoint & Teams.
  • A genuine commitment to innovation and education with a strong desire to build and progress a career within this field. 
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate with a wide variety of partners, clients and stakeholders.

What we can offer 
This is a continuing, full-time position and will be primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane City (South Bank). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.  Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples. 

Salary Range 
The full-time base salary for a HEW Level 6 is in the range $91,843 - $97,964 per annum + 17% superannuation.  The total package is in the range $107,456 - $114,618 per annum.
