GHD is a global professional services firm with more than 14,000 people working across water, energy and resources, environment, property and buildings, and transportation. They support clients on five continents and around the Pacific, aiming to help them achieve successful outcomes through practical, sustainable solutions. The Abu Dhabi team is seeking a Senior Transport Engineer to join them on site for a full-time role that keeps you close to the action and the numbers.

The role is anchored in Abu Dhabi, where you’ll lead and contribute to planning, design and delivery of transport infrastructure projects. It suits someone who loves applying solid traffic engineering fundamentals to real-world networks, mentoring junior engineers, and coordinating across multidisciplinary teams to keep complex projects moving forward.

If you enjoy shaping roads and urban mobility systems, collaborating with clients and authorities, and making a tangible impact on transport infrastructure, this could be a strong fit.

Designing the backbone of transport networks

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll steer the design and technical execution of transport schemes that cover roads, intersections and traffic systems. You’ll also drive the assessment work that informs decisions, from traffic impact studies to feasibility analyses, using network modelling to test ideas and demonstrate outcomes. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll ensure the solutions you help deliver are robust, compliant with local regulations and aligned with international standards.

Part of your responsibility is building strong relationships with ITC and other transport authorities, and collaborating with clients and internal teams to ensure projects meet expectations and stay on track. You’ll also guide and develop junior engineers, while preparing clear technical reports, design documentation and stakeholder presentations to communicate progress and outcomes.

What you’ll need to bring to the project

  • Must-have: a degree in Civil or Transport Engineering, with a Master’s considered a plus, and 8–10 years of transport engineering experience, ideally in the UAE or GCC.
  • Must-have: demonstrated proficiency with traffic modelling tools such as SIDRA, AIMSUN, and VISSIM.
  • Must-have: solid knowledge of UAE transport authority requirements and how projects are managed within that framework.
  • Must-have: excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of working closely with authorities and clients.
  • Must-have: a strong ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with ITC and other transport authorities.
  • Nice-to-have: extensive experience in Abu Dhabi with developers and ITC.
  • Nice-to-have: experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team development.
  • Nice-to-have: involvement in tender preparation and some business development activity.

Pay, benefits and practical details you can rely on

The role is based onsite in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and offered as a full-time position. Specific details about salary and benefits aren’t listed here, but you’ll work in a location known for large-scale transport projects and a collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment.

Advice for applicants

Put the essentials up front on your resume by leading with your Civil or Transport Engineering degree and your 8–10 years of transport engineering experience in the UAE or GCC, plus your proficiency with SIDRA, AIMSUN and VISSIM.

When you describe your experience, give concrete examples that show you’ve used those modelling tools to inform design decisions and demonstrate outcomes on roads, intersections or urban mobility projects, and highlight any work with UAE transport authorities or ITC.

Prepare for interviews by outlining how you’ve collaborated across multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and to specification, including how you’ve mentored junior engineers and produced technical reports and stakeholder presentations.

One smart question to ask: how does the team partner with ITC and other transport authorities on major road projects, and what role would the Senior Transport Engineer play in coordinating those relationships to ensure delivery excellence?
