Visy in Auckland is seeking a full-time onsite Software Engineer to build and enhance manufacturing systems for New Zealand operations, focusing on scalable databases and integrations using SQL Server, Oracle and Python. You will join a collaborative team reporting to the MES Automation Lead, working with Operations, Quality and IT to design, develop and optimise database driven solutions that improve manufacturing performance and support Visy’s digital transformation. Role Details:

Based in Auckland and reporting to the MES Automation Lead, you'll play a key role in developing the systems that support Visy's factory automation and data capture capabilities. Working closely with Operations, Quality and IT teams, you'll design, build and optimise database-driven solutions that improve manufacturing performance and support Visy's ongoing digital transformation.

What you'll do:

• Support and optimise critical manufacturing databases and MES applications that keep Visy’s operations running efficiently.
• Design, develop and enhance backend solutions, including databases, stored procedures and integration scripts.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis and drive long-term system improvements.
• Contribute to the delivery of exciting technology projects, from solution design and testing through to go-live support.
• Champion security and performance by identifying opportunities to modernise systems and enhance reliability.

What you’ll bring:

• Strong experience delivering and supporting manufacturing applications, automation solutions and plant-floor systems in a complex operational environment.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including production, quality, product traceability and warehouse operations.
• Proven ability to analyse business processes, identify improvement opportunities and implement practical, value-driven solutions.
• Hands-on experience working with enterprise databases, including Sybase, MariaDB and Oracle.
• Experience developing middleware and integration solutions using scripting languages such as Python, PERL, PHP and Shell scripting.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across Operations, Quality and IT teams.
• Build and enhance critical manufacturing systems used across Visy's Australia and New Zealand operations.
