Job Purpose

Modular's Digital Services team is responsible for creating the tools to leverage the information generated by Komatsu’s mining technology solutions and equipment. As part of Modular’s Digital Services team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining innovative cloud solutions in accordance with best practices. You will work closely with other Customer Success team members and the regions to implement these holistic solutions as part of ongoing customer programs. You'll be tackling tough challenges that require innovative out-of-the-box thinking, an understanding of our customer’s business and operating environment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to make sound business decisions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Each day will present you with new challenges and opportunities to test and grow your skills.  As a Software Engineer I with Modular, you’ll be responsible for: 

 

Ability to interact with data science professionals to productize data pipelines as production applications 
Design cloud solutions that are secure, scalable, and highly available 
Employ Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) methodology to enable automation in building, testing, and deployment of applications 
Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the analytics platform, including the management and configuration of big data software deployments. Develop maintenance requirements and procedures 
Troubleshoot problems across a wide array of cloud services and functional areas 
Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly 
Write specifications and documentation for feature requirements in a process-oriented fashion 
Participate in project planning process to share knowledge of system options, risk, impact, and costs vs. benefits 
Participate in sprint meetings and design reviews 
Host code review sessions with members of the team 
Provide peer advisement to other Engineers, through code/design reviews and peer-programming efforts 
Provide effective communication with geographically distributed team members 
Escalate urgent issues to management 

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other related technical filed or equivalent experience 
Software development experience specifically OOP 
Experience in a DevOps role utilizing Azure platform 
Experience with databases such as MySQL and or Microsoft SQL Server 
Ability to work both independently as well as in a dynamic, distributed team environment 
Ability to adhere to strict delivery schedules and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously 
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail 
Strong time management, written and verbal communication skills 
Knowledge of various Software Development Methodologies (particularly Agile) and experience in all stages of the software development lifecycle is a plus 
Experience with Python 
Experience with Next.js (Web App Development) 
Experience with Databricks/Spark and Scala/PySpark development 
Experience with Snowflake/SQL and data warehouse technologies

Desired Skills

Experience with ETL technologies – Apache NiFi or similar 
Experience with Kafka (Confluent cloud) 
Experience with Power BI / Grafana and visualization technologies 
Experience with Containerization, Kubernetes, and associated development/CI/CD processes 
Experience with Azure PaaS services – Azure storage, blob/ADLS2, Azure functions and administrative functions 
Strong understanding of how to secure Cloud environments and meet compliance requirements 
Experience with SQL development to support legacy database systems and associated integration and processing infrastructure to maintain key business functions. 
Solid foundation of networking and Linux administration 
Experience with source control tools (Git, Jira, Bitbucket)
