Jetstar, part of the Qantas Group, is seeking a Solution Architect to lead architecture for the Operations Control Centre in a full time hybrid role based in Melbourne, with a hybrid model requiring about three days onsite. You’ll own solution design across a portfolio, translate time critical operational problems into technically sound options, and define integration patterns across scheduling, crew management, aircraft movement, maintenance and customer systems. The role emphasizes modern data platforms (Snowflake, Kafka, Databricks), near real time pipelines and AI capabilities, plus strong governance and vendor evaluation. Requirements include a CS/IT degree, proven enterprise or solution architecture experience, and exceptional communication in Agile contexts; airline ops experience is a plus. Apply by July 3; tailor your CV to show concrete outcomes, collaboration with BAs and Product Owners, and ability to balance trade offs and risk.

Job Description

  • Drive Solution Architecture for Jetstar Operations Control Centre
  • Flexible ways of working – hybrid model with 3 days onsite
  • Full-time Permenant Opportunity, based at our Head Office in Melbourne

If you’ve ever thought about a career in aviation, now is the perfect time to take off with Jetstar! We are undertaking one of the biggest recruitment campaigns in our 20-year-history. Join us during an exciting period as we welcome more state-of-the-art aircraft, launch new international routes and continue our mission to help more people take off through low fares.

The Solution Architect will provide architectural leadership across the Jetstar Operations Control Centre technology strategy. The role will work at the intersection of airline operations and technology delivery, engaging with operations control stakeholders to understand complex, time-sensitive business requirements and translate them into technically sound solutions that project teams can build.

As a Solution Architect across information technology and internet-based technology, the position will guide solution design across custom software development, SaaS and off-the-shelf application onboarding, real-time data pipelines, systems integration across a broad vendor landscape, and emerging AI capabilities, making a broad delivery background and hands-on understanding of modern data platforms highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own solution architecture across a portfolio of concurrent initiatives, ensuring individual designs contribute to a coherent, integrated platform rather than a collection of point solutions
  • Lead discovery and design phases, translating ambiguous operational problems into well-defined technical options with clearly articulated trade-offs for both engineering teams and business stakeholders
  • Define and govern integration patterns across a complex ecosystem of airline operations systems, spanning scheduling, crew management, aircraft movement, maintenance, and customer management platforms and ensuring designs are practical and buildable within delivery team capability
  • Partner with Business Analysts and Product Owners to bridge the gap between operational requirements and technical delivery, maintaining credibility on both sides of that conversation
  • Contribute to build-vs-buy assessments, vendor RFI/RFP processes, and commercial technology evaluations, with the ability to make and defend a recommendation
  • Apply strong data architecture principles across the portfolio, including experience with modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Kafka, or Databricks, near-real-time pipeline design, and making data accessible for dashboards, simulation tools, and AI-assisted capabilities
  • Provide technical guidance and assurance to developers, data engineers, and integration specialists
  • Maintain a current understanding of the existing systems landscape and actively manage the interdependencies between inflight initiatives and the broader technology estate
  • Assess and mitigate technical risk across concurrent workstreams, supporting delivery planning with a realistic view of complexity, sequencing, and dependency
  • Stay current with emerging technology relevant to airline operations — including AI, automation, and real-time data and help the team and its stakeholders understand where and how to apply

To be considered key skills will include:

  • Tertiary qualification in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in solution or enterprise architecture roles with a demonstrated track record of delivering custom-built software.
  • Experience across the full spectrum of delivery models, from custom software builds through to the evaluation, onboarding, and integration of SaaS and off-the-shelf applications with the judgement to know which approach fits the problem
  • Exceptional communication skills with the proven ability to engage at varying levels, from detailed technical design sessions with engineers through to framing options and risks for senior operational leaders
  • Strong experience with modern data platform technologies, including tools such as Snowflake, Kafka, or Databricks, and a solid grasp of pipeline architecture, data modelling, and near-real-time data patterns
  • Solid understanding of API and systems integration design, including REST, event-driven, and database integration approaches across heterogeneous vendor landscapes
  • Familiarity with AI and ML application architecture, including how to responsibly design and govern LLM-based capabilities in an operational context
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in agile delivery environments where architecture is a continuous, collaborative activity
  • Previous experience in airline operations technology or a comparable complex, safety-adjacent industry where system failures have material operational consequences is desired
  • Working knowledge of the systems and platforms common to airline operations control, crew management, aircraft \movement, maintenance, scheduling, and customer management systems advantageous
  • Experience designing for high-availability, operationally critical environments where system behaviour disruption is as important as steady-state performance is disirable
