Summary:  

QuEra Computing UK Limited is looking for an experienced AMO Physicist for its UK Quantum Computing operations. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The individual in this role will contribute to the advancement of neutral-atom based quantum computing technologies. They will be involved in the design, implementation, and characterization of neutral-atom quantum computing systems, and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and computer scientists to push the boundaries of quantum computing using neutral-atom platforms.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist in the construction of a next generation neutral atom quantum computer at Quera UK’s site on the Harwell Science and Innovation campus
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to verify and validate modules and subsystems
  • Run, calibrate, test and improve the operation of the QPU
  • Investigate sources of noise and decoherence and propose mitigation strategies
  • Analyze experimental data and draw meaningful conclusions to guide system improvements.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in AMO physics and quantum computing.
  • Engage in collaborations with academic and industry partners

 

Qualifications:  

 

  • A Ph.D. in experimental AMO physics or related field, with hands-on experience in building or operating a neutral atom or a trapped ion system, or another quantum hardware platform or practical experience with actual gate-based quantum computers is a major asset.
  • Success in research, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or scientific talks and other contributions.
  • Proficient programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
  • Experience in mentoring or training scientists or engineers.
  • Free to travel within Europe and the US where necessary
