Information about the position

As a Staff Engineer for Data Infrastructure, you will define and guide the long-term technical direction for Vinted’s experimentation capabilities and the broader data platform foundations that support them. You will enable teams to roll out impactful changes quickly and safely, run experiments reliably at scale, and use trusted data to make better decisions and learn from experiment results.

Your primary focus will be the end-to-end architecture of Vinted’s Impact Platform — including feature flags, rollout controls, targeting, experiment assignment, exposure and event pipelines, metric foundations, SDKs, governance, and developer experience. Alongside this, you will help shape the wider data infrastructure these capabilities depend on, ensuring they evolve as a coherent, reliable, and scalable platform across Vinted.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering for Data Infrastructure, you will work closely with other Staff Engineers, Engineering Managers, and teams across the domain and broader organisation to align technical direction, drive platform evolution, and raise the engineering bar.

Think you’re up to the challenge? Read on.

In this position, you’ll

  • Own the long-term technical vision for Vinted’s experimentation capabilities, including feature flags, rollout controls, targeting, and the data foundations behind them.
  • Define a cohesive end-to-end architecture for reliable experimentation at scale, spanning feature flags, experiment assignment, exposure and event pipelines, metrics, reporting, and the broader data platform integrations these capabilities depend on.
  • Set engineering standards for platform APIs, SDKs, schemas, data contracts, observability, privacy, and access management.
  • Lead high-impact cross-team technical initiatives, clarify architectural trade-offs, and raise engineering standards across the domain.
  • Partner with internal users and stakeholders to gather feedback, drive adoption, and ensure the platform solves real user needs.
  • Represent Data Infrastructure within the Staff / Principal Engineer layer, helping steer key technical priorities, architectural trade-offs, and execution direction.

About you

  • Extensive prior experience as an architect, principal, or staff engineer, having delivered cross-team platform or infrastructure initiatives in organisations operating at scale.
  • Strong architectural judgment across data platforms, experimentation systems, feature flags, and platform engineering, with the ability to connect technical decisions to a broader domain strategy.
  • Hands-on understanding of modern data platform architecture, including orchestration, ingestion, storage and table formats, analytics and BI tooling, governance, privacy, access control, and observability.
  • Practical experience shaping hybrid on-prem / cloud architectures, with a solid understanding of cloud economics, platform cost trade-offs, and vendor lock-in mitigation.
  • Experience with experimentation platforms, feature flags, metrics frameworks, product instrumentation, or analysis and reporting automation would be a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrable ability to create technical vision in ambiguous environments and turn it into clear architecture, standards, and execution direction across multiple teams.
  • Ability to delegate refinement and implementation of technical initiatives to engineers in your organisation while remaining close enough to the architecture to provide meaningful guidance.
  • Sharp communication skills and an ability to discuss complex technical topics with engineers, product and data stakeholders, and leadership, building alignment and consensus across domains.
