The Station Officer oversees the operations of the Airport Emergency Services (AES) to ensure a high level of emergency response readiness. The role involves managing personnel and resources to guarantee immediate and effective action during incidents, ensuring full compliance with Health and Safety regulations, General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) licensing standards, and airport policies and procedures.

The Station Officer exercises strong command and control during emergency situations, applies national and local emergency protocols, and maintains a safe, disciplined working environment. The role also supports staff welfare, training, and development while contributing to emergency planning, audits, and continuous improvement of AES operations.

 

Responsibilities

Operational & Incident Management

  • Provide Incident Command during emergency situations and make critical decisions to mitigate incidents effectively.
  • Ensure command and control protocols are applied to the highest standard during all operations.
  • Conduct incident investigations and compile required reports.
  • Act as deputy to the AES Manager when required, ensuring continuity of leadership.

Training, Compliance & Audits

  • Collaborate with the AES Manager to manage the Maintenance of Skills (MOS) and Structured Learning Program (SLP).
  • Oversee training, audits, and staff proficiency assessments.
  • Administer AES training and auditing systems in compliance with GCAA requirements, including Internal Quality Assurance (IQA).
  • Support the development and maintenance of audit processes aligned with GCAA standards.
  • Assist the AES Training/Assessor Team and support training-related change management initiatives.

Personnel & Management Support

  • Support the AES Manager in people management, including monitoring sickness levels and staff welfare.
  • Oversee the development and auditing of AES personnel under direct control.
  • Ensure staff discipline, behavioural standards, and fitness requirements are maintained.
  • Assist airport management in implementing organizational decisions and change initiatives.

Emergency Planning & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Assist the Airport Emergency Planning (AEP) team and participate in Emergency Planning Committee activities.
  • Support planning and execution of emergency exercises and drills.
  • Establish and maintain operational relationships with emergency services and support agencies.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external airport stakeholders.

Administration, Projects & Resources

  • Ensure all policies, procedures, risk assessments, and records are accurate and up to date.
  • Lead and support AES-related projects, including development of policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Support management of regulatory and non-regulatory training budgets.
  • Undertake additional duties as required to ensure business continuity.

Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

  • Comply with and actively support the Airport Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Promote a positive, just safety culture and participate in safety programs and governance meetings.
  • Demonstrate ethical leadership and ensure safety is prioritized in all decisions.
  • Act in a manner that minimizes environmental impact and supports airport sustainability objectives.

 

Requirements and Skills

Education, Qualifications & Certifications

  • Accredited certification at Watch Manager level (or equivalent).
  • Relevant certifications related to emergency services discipline.
  • ICAO Level 4 English language proficiency.
  • Must meet all required medical and physical fitness standards.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aviation rescue and firefighting services.
  • At least 3 years’ experience at a supervisory level.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven ability to operate effectively under pressure.
