LP Building Solutions is seeking a full-time Strander Aid in Thomasville, NC to safely assist the strander operator, maintain debarkers and conveyors, perform knife changes, carry out minor maintenance, and keep a clean, safe work environment. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and 1–2 years of equipment operation, with basic mechanical skills and the ability to operate mobile equipment and a chainsaw. Expect an OSB manufacturing setting with extreme temperatures, lifts over 40 pounds, stairs, and work at heights up to 80 feet. Job Purpose

Safely and efficiently assist strander operator in the processing of raw materials 

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintains debarkers, strander, green screens, and associated belt conveyors  
  • Complete knife changes as required on machines 
  • Complete minor maintenance tasks to maintain operations and mill efficiency 
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, including cleaning equipment 
  • Operate strander as needed on a relief basis 
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations 

What do I need to be successful?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time 
  • Excellent manual dexterity, visual acuity, depth perception, and hand/eye coordination 
  • Basic mechanical skills 
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment 
  • Ability to operate a chain saw 

 

Education:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in equipment operation.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.

 

Work Environment

  • OSB manufacturing facility with exposure to extreme heat, cold, and other inclement conditions 
  • Required to climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and lift over 40 lbs. 
  • Must work with extremely sharp instruments 
  • Must be comfortable working at heights of 80 ft or above 
  • When machines fail, high stress situations may arise
