Imec is offering a student project on a CT pipeline ADC for a readout system, based in Eindhoven's Holst Centre onsite for MSc students for 9 to 12 months. The role blends analog and digital design, including literature studies on continuous-time ADCs, architecture study and proposal, circuit implementation with layout, and potential tape-out; it emphasizes balancing analog ADC and digital post processing filters for low power and small area. You will gain supervision and exposure to chip fabrication and measurements. To apply, highlight coursework in CMOS design and signal processing, CADENCE and MATLAB skills, independence, and availability, and note the Dutch university registration requirement for non-EU candidates; apply via the portal or [email protected].
*Important for non-EU students: You'll need to be registered at a Dutch university to meet immigration requirements.
To achieve a small-area, low-power-consumption ADC for an arrayed readout system, the signal filters in front and the digital signal post-processing also need to be considered. This project focuses on CT pipeline ADCs for their wide signal bandwidth and inherent anti-aliasing feature, and further investigates their trade-off of using complex digital reconstruction filters for post-processing. Aiming to look for a new balance of design effort between analog ADC and digital filters, you will do:
You will be working in an inspiring high-tech environment, located within the Holst Centre in Eindhoven, and part of the larger IMEC organization, world-leader in R&D on nanotechnology and electronics. You will receive supervision from world-renown researchers in the field of ADCs, and collaborate with experts in different technical fields. You will get the opportunity to experience all steps of a research project, from architecture design to chip fabrication and possibly measurements.
